The main goal of the paper is to describe modern Croatian female literature. More specifically, the paper deals with several novels which were inspired by the traumatic events that occured in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s: Kao da me nema by Slavenka Drakulić, Pred crvenim zidom by Irena Vrkljan, Crnac by Tatjana Gromača and Uho, grlo, nož by Vedrana Rudan. The common denominator in these literary works is that they are all written from a female perspective and they combine fictional elements with autobiographical records and events which can be referred back to the reality of the 1990s war. In order to be able to explore this literature, of great significance are such elements as the body, memory and identity which are intertwined in different combinations. Moreover, the style aspects are of crucial importance, being not only secondary elements but also the subject of female writing which faces the experienced trauma.

Szkic poświęcony polsko-niemieckiej aktorce i pisarce Eleonorze Kalkowskiej jest przyczynkiem do szerszej recepcji jej twórczości w Polsce. Autorka podejmuje próbę uporządkowania dotychczasowego stanu badań w Niemczech i w Polsce. Następnie wskazuje na rozwój artystyczny Kalkowskiej: od poezji miłosnej (Die Oktave, 1912) przez lirykę antywojenną (Der Rauch des Opfers, 1916) aż po dramat społeczny okresu międzywojennego (Josef, Zeitungsnotitzen, 1932), którego jest wybitną przedstawicielką. Podkreślona zostaje ponadnarodowa wartość pisarstwa tworzącej po niemiecku Kalkowskiej, którego istotą pozostaje idea sprawiedliwości społecznej i obrona człowieczeństwa jednocześnie z pozycji humanistycznych, chrześcijańskich i feministycznych.

The study devoted to the forgotten Polish-German actress and writer, Eleonora Kalkowska, is a contribution to the reception of her works. The author makes an attempt to order the current state of the research in both Germany and Poland. Consequently, she depicts Kalkowska’s artistic development: from love poetry (Die Oktave, 1912), through anti-war lyrics (Der Rauch des Opfers, 1916), up to social drama of the in-between-the-wars period (Josef, Zeitungsnotitzen, 1932), of which Kalkowska is an eminent representative. Transnational quality of her works has been noticed here, whose most important idea is social justice and defense of humanity. The uniqueness of her writing is characterized by the form and manner of realizing her artistic mission, both from a humanistic, Christian and woman’s perspective.
