The paper shows Natalia Lach-Lachowicz (Natalia LL) as a neo avant-garde artist whose works in a specific maximalistic way are very close to the main currents of avant-garde trends: newmediality (photograph), minimalism, conceptualism, performance, bodyart, pop-art and feminist art. The paper concentrates mainly on the mutual influencing features of conceptualism, consumptionism and feminism in Natalia LL’s works and pays attention to the emancipational potential of her works of the 70s and 80s.

The article discusses the discourse and feminist practices of the transformation period in Poland. The author traces the intermingling of feminism and postmodernism at the time, the Polish specificity of modernity and democratization, pointing to the role of critical art in the performative archive of Polish feminism of the 1990s. She reconstructs the feminist archive of that time to inquire about its contemporary potential and agency.

Maintenance Art by Mierle Laderman Ukeles from 1969, in which she discusses the problem of social exclusion in its multiple forms, i.e. exclusion of women from the art world; exclusion of reproductive and care labor etc. It is preceded by the Artist's Introduction from 2014, where she discusses her artwork from the 1970s, conducted in the New York City Department of Sanitation and the Introduction by the Translator, situating the Manifesto and subsequent artistic practice in the theoretical and political context.

Najstarsza i najważniejsza to artystyczny manifest Mierle Laderman Ukeles Sztuka opieki [Maintenance Art] z 1969 roku, w którym autorka podejmuje problem wykluczenia w jego różnych postaciach: kobiet ze świata sztuki, prac reprodukcyjnych i opiekuńczych z obszaru pracy etc. Poprzedza go „Wstęp artystki” z 2014 roku, gdzie opisuje ona przeprowadzone w latach siedemdziesiątych projekty artystyczne – swoje rezydencje w Wydziale Oczyszczania Miasta Nowy Jork. Całość otwiera „Wprowadzenie” tłumaczki, sytuujące ten manifest w szerszym, teoretyczno-politycznym kontekście.

This article explores American visual artist Mary Kelly’s autobiographical work Post-partum document in reference to the politics of life writing. Resorting to Lacanian psychoanalysis, a pastiche of scientific narratives and other (auto-)narrative strategies, in her work Kelly documented the first five years of her son’s life from his weaning from the breast until the day when he wrote his name. By documenting her child’s development, the artist also recorded the process of her own formation as a maternal subject, a formation gradually worked out through an evolving relationship with her son. In her work, the artist made vivid the incompatibility and limitations of various narrative frameworks in retelling a fundamentally relational experience that verges on the mental and bodily, and which is necessarily mediated by the patriarchal ideology. This article analyses Kelly’s conflicting narrative strategies that fail to successfully represent the mother-child formative relationship and which demonstrate the mother’s ideological alienation. It reads Kelly’s work politically, exploring the ways in which Post-partum document’s (auto-)narrative voices address questions and dilemmas of the feminine/maternal subject, the subject’s formation, and the limits of its (self-) representation within patriarchy. The article argues that Kelly challenges the traditional autobiographic genre by attending to her lived experience as a mother and the culturally repressed maternal desire.

The paper concerns mass public protests of women that took place in 2016–2017 in Poland. Its attempt is to present the pieces of feminist art referring to those events. Discursive analysis is focused on the cooperation of two seemingly distant discourses - street protests and arts - in creating a representation of the collective experience of women in cultural memory. Several examples of artistic visualizations, vocalizations and verbalizations from 2017–2018 were selected for the presentation.

Artykuł dotyczy masowych protestów publicznych kobiet, które odbyły się w latach 2016–2017 w Polsce. Zawiera próbę zaprezentowana prac artystycznych z kręgu sztuki feministycznej nawiązujących do tych wydarzeń. Analiza dyskursywna dotyczy kooperacji dwóch oddalonych od siebie na pozór dyskursów - protestów ulicznych i artystycznego - w tworzeniu reprezentacji doświadczenia zbiorowego kobiet w pamięci kulturowej. Wybrano kilka przykładów artystycznych wizualizacji, wokalizacji i werbalizacji z lat 2017–2018.

The 2021 Programme Study of the Prądnik Museum sums up the discussion on the presentation of the heritage of northern Cracow. The world-renown artists Jerzy Bereś and Maria Pinińska-Bereś who lived and created their art in this part of the city are not exposed within the public space, and most likely for this reason they have not been exposed in the Study, either. Meanwhile, without any institutional involvement, residents undertake artistic actions close to the performances of the Bereśes. The Sledge Protest conducted in the summer reminds of the Landscape Annexation and The Banner of Pinińska-Bereś; social garden establishing reminds of the Living Pink; the transfer of the Prądnik River water is reminiscent of the Praying for Rain; while neighbourly bonds echo the Kite-Letter and Letters Dispatched with Forces of Nature. Owing to these unconscious similarities the Pinińska-Bereś’s artistic output seems worthy of being included in the proposed Museum. Furthermore, three additional proposals for the Prądnik Museum are discussed in the paper: they take into consideration the oeuvre of the Bereśes, residents’ social and artistic activity, as well as the demands of New Museology (rooting in the local community and focus on education and participation). A performance museum may be a reaction to the lack of collection, allowing to benefit from the artistic output of the community and the artists presently living in Cracow, including Bettina Bereś’s reenactment. A biographical museum may provide an opportunity for storytelling and identity investigation, as well as bonding. The inspiration for the latter may be derived from the Yayoi Kusama Museum: it was her oeuvre that was used for the visual identification in her native city of Matsumoto. An ecomuseum, in turn, allows to incorporate the preserved atelier of the Bereśes, the Prądnik River, as well as the post-industrial heritage. Adding this potential to the conclusions drawn from the Study, in the northern part of Cracow a new city landmark can indeed be created.
