EN
The article is dedicated to the analysis of naming of the higher Divine Power. The lexeme ‚Бог‘ (God) belongs to the majority of these nominations that is part of most widely used sacral onyms of the Ukrainian folklore songs. The research proves the claims of those scholars who believe that the theonym ‚Бог‘ (God) is pre-Christian by its origin. It is most often used as part of fixed phrases, interjectory idioms with address for help, care, defense, where the signifier correlates with the etymon of the proper name: petitioner.

The article is one of the series of author’s publications dedicated to sacral space in Ukrainian song folklore. An analysis of names of religious holidays used in Ukrainian popular poetic creative works was carried out in the present paper. Despite the fact that the names are Christian onyms and a part of them is Biblical names, both semantically and structurally, another part is the names that reveal in their Christianized sound form pagan images, preserving their Pre-Christian symbolism and functional characteristics, and according to their semantic meaning, connotations quite often correlate with ancient cultural senses. The composition and inner form of folklore heortonyms (names of holidays) reveal the peculiarities of Ukrainian Christianity, which is the evidence of dualism characteristic of popular faith for over centuries. It is evident that Pre-Christian cultural tradition dominates: symbiosis of two religious paradigms in popular song onymy occured with the prevalence of pagan traditions.

The study of folklore onyms has a history lasting over a century and a half. Among linguistic disciplines they are the object of study of at least linguistic folklore studies, ethnolinguistics and onomastics. However, scholars from other fields do not always realise the distinctiveness of the object of study in each of them. The aim of the article is to describe the main tasks of onomastic studies in folklore. The object of study in folklore onomastics, unlike in other sciences, has to be typological regularities of organization, structuring and existence of the system of proper names in oral folklore as an organic, specific part of national onym system and its ability to provide evidence about main tendencies and regularities of development and functioning of national system of naming.
