Certain regions or countries attract and succeed in retaining the existing demographic potential. Others undergo stagnation or even regress, which in extreme situations can lead to depopulation. This issue is important, as it is the inhabitants of given territories that initiate and create certain activities, values and changes in their environment. Today, attracting, retaining, developing and maintaining employees present a particularly difficult challenge, with migrations making it even more difficult. The paper addresses the issues of selected aspects of the development of human capital in the face of foreign migrations with Poland as an example. Human capital is shaped by multiple factors. Itis a complex process. The aim of this paper is to show the effects of foreign migrations in the practice of human resource management. On the one hand, management theoreticians and practitioners emphasize an increasing importance in the use of human capital; on the other hand, its waste can be seen in many situations.

The attention is concentrated on presenting scientific research results in this sphere indicating many problems caused by migrations not only in the social, demographic and economic spheres but also in political and cultural spheres thus enabling scientists to understand better this complex and multidimensional phenomenon.

Celem artykułu jest próba zdefiniowania rodziny migracyjnej oraz ocena wpływu wyjazdów zagranicznych na funkcjonowanie takiej rodziny. Przegląd literatury przedmiotu oraz przeprowadzone wywiady z rodzinami czasowo rozdzielonymi, pozwoliły na zdiagnozowanie rangi i skutków zjawiska dla rodzin z obszaru województwa opolskiego. Śląsk Opolski jest definiowany jako region migracyjny. Odpływ mieszkańców w ramach migracji wpływa zarówno na procesy demograficzne jak i społeczne. Różnice w pochodzeniu regionalnym ludności tego regionu miały zasadnicze znaczenie dla intensywności występowania emigracji i jej kierunku do czasu przystąpienia do Unii Europejskiej (Ślązacy emigrowali przede wszystkim do Niemiec Zachodnich). Po 2004 r. w migracjach zagranicznych, wśród których dominującymi stały się wyjazdy zarobkowe o charakterze czasowym w coraz większym stopniu uczestniczy ludność napływowa. Tak więc w nowych warunkach społeczno-gospodarczych doświadczenie rozłąki z osobami, które poszukują i podejmują pracę za granicą staje się wspólnym problemem rodzin zarówno wśród ludności autochtonicznej jak i napływowej.

The aim of the article is an attempt to define a migratory family and international migration impact on its functioning. A review of sources and interviews with families that are temporary separated, enable the diagnosis of a rank and outcomes of the phenomenon for Opole Voivodeship’ families. Opole Silesia is defined as a migratory region. A backflow of inhabitants who migrate influences not only on demographical processes, but also on social ones. The ethnic diversity of the regional population has a vital meaning for the intensity of migrations since Poland has become a member of the European Union. After 2004, most women leave because of financial issues. There are temporary leaves, and among them, increasingly concerns migrant people. So, the experience of separation with people that look for and start work becomes a common problem for natives and immigrants in the new social and economical conditions.
