W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w latach 2010-2015 na terenie województwa zachodniopomorskiego, dotyczących korzystania z nieruchomości rolnych położonych na obszarach objętych prawnymi formami ochrony przyrody. Celem badań było poznanie poglądów osób użytkujących nieruchomości rolne położone na obszarach chronionych na temat możliwości wykorzystania nieruchomości rolnych dla potrzeb prowadzenia działalności rolniczej, utrudnień w korzystaniu z tychże nieruchomości, a także motywów nabycia nieruchomości położonych na tym specyficznym terenie.

This contribution describes the quality of the natural environment and landscape of Uniejów municipality and the state of their preservation. An extensive stock-taking in respect of nature protection forms was carried out on the territory of this municipality. It identified 9 protected and endangered habitats as listed in Appendix I to the Habitat Directive and 6 nature protection forms, such as Nature 2000 area, protected landscape area or nature monument. Valorisation of the different parts of the municipality resulted in updating the knowledge about its natural and tourist values. Research findings confirm the diversity and attractiveness of the natural environment of this region. It is important to place emphasis on preservation of the existing natural assets and introduction of new forms of nature protection.

Prowadzona w Bytomiu od kilku wieków eksploatacja rud cynku, ołowiu i żelaza oraz węgla kamiennego negatywnie wpłynęła zarówno na stan środowiska i rzeźbę terenu, jak i na postrzeganie miasta przez jego mieszkańców i osoby przyjezdne. Zanieczyszczenie powietrza, wody i gleby, pogorszenie walorów estetycznych krajobrazu i zubożenie bioróżnorodności, liczne szkody górnicze oraz wynikające z tego uciążliwości – taki obraz Bytomia utrwalił się przez lata w świadomości ludzi. W artykule przedstawiono inne, mało znane, zielone oblicze miasta. Zdegradowane tereny poeksploatacyjne, z pomocą człowieka lub bez niej, bardzo szybko zajęła przyroda. Obecnie wiele z tych obszarów objęto ochroną prawną: jeden związany jest z ochroną obszarową (rezerwat przyrody), dwa kolejne – z ochroną indywidualną (stanowisko dokumentacyjne i trzy zespoły przyrodniczo-krajobrazowe). W artykule zwrócono uwagę na możliwości turystyczno-rekreacyjnego i edukacyjnego wykorzystania zrewitalizowanych i chronionych terenów zielonych miasta.

Contemporary research concerning the benefits (services) of the ecosystems (environment) confirm the rank and significance of the natural environment and its resources for shaping humanity's well-being. Particularly highlighted is the need to protection of live natural resources to preserve biodiversity, which is essential for retaining the basic ecological processes and providing the sustainability of usage of these resources. Consequently, protection of biodiversity is not only an environmental issue, but also an economic and social issue involving the well-being and quality of life of society. Thus, biological diversity is an essential condition for providing ecological safety, retaining the continuity of natural processes, and conditions the quality of life and economic potential. The main purpose of the paper is to indicate the theoretical bases of biodiversity protection from the perspective of the natural and economic sciences, and to describe the diversity of biodiversity protection levels in the EU states. A specific aim is to indicate the forms and instruments of nature conservation involved in biodiversity protection, and to carry out an overview of established nature conservation programmes in selected EU countries. In order to accomplish such a complex aim, this article presents an overview of literature found in the natural, economic and legal sciences and popular magazines presenting scientific research within the field of biodiversity. Then a comparative analysis is presented based on the statistical data coming from various international statistics resources (OECD, EUROSTAT, EEA).
