Internet memes are differentiated visual forms: ranging from images with witty captions to various mobile or static graphics, which often contain larger fragments of text. A meme as a carrier of information is a complex unit, which partly uses the definition of journalistic writing. The anlaysis of memes requires careful methodology. In the case of this short but multiaspectual mini-genre, mixed research methods are necessary. It is worth remembering that a meme, as a unit, is not only a visual and verbal layer, but also a spectrum of tools, the possibility of assessment and comments by users.

Memy interenetowe to zróżnicowane formy wizualne: od obrazka z błyskotliwym podpisem do różnorodnych grafik, ruchomych lub statycznych, często zawierających większe partie tekstu. Mem jako nośnik informacji jest formatem złożonym – wyczerpuje po części definicję gatunku dziennikarskiego. Analiza memów wymaga przemyślanej metodologii. W wypadku tego krótkiego, acz wieloaspektowego minigatunku niezbędne są mieszane metody badawcze. Warto przy tym pamiętać, że mem jako jednostka to nie tylko warstwa wizualna i słowna, ale również wachlarz narzędzi – możliwość oceny oraz skomentowania przez użytkowników.

Russian aggression against Ukraine has strongly affected many areas of life, including the media ecosystem. The war has also reorganised the media agenda, made its presence in language, and changed public and private communication. The issue of war has not missed colloquial forms of expression in virtual space either. One of them, where the discourse of war becomes strongly visible, is the image forum, whose products are internet memes. These small, condensed and satirical messages have served a complementary function to the information appearing in the mainstream media. They are a thriving and constantly evolving medium of communication for the younger generation. They also meet the needs of computer-mediated communication (CMC) in its broadest sense, which consists primarily of the exchange of signs and symbols between users, immersed in micro and macro contexts. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a study of internet memes on the topic of the war in Ukraine. A representative sample of memes from the kwejk.pl portal, published in the first month of the conflict, was subjected to quantitative content analysis. The obtained results present a synthetic picture of the war through the prism of its main actors, events and connotations. They also allow for the reconstruction of a thematic agenda that complemented the dominant discourse in the media in February/March 2022.At the same time, it represents the voice of young web users in the public debate on the international situation, manifested in a form specific to digital communication.

Agresja rosyjska wobec Ukrainy silnie wpłynęła na wiele dziedzin życia, w tym na świat mediów. Wydarzenie to przeorganizowało agendę medialną, zaznaczyło swoją obecność w języku, a także zmieniło sposób komunikacji publicznej i prywatnej. Kwestia wojny nie ominęła również potocznych form wyrazu w przestrzeni wirtualnej. Jedną z nich, gdzie silnie uwidacznia się dyskurs wojenny, jest forum obrazkowe, którego produktami są memy internetowe. Te niewielkie, skondensowane i satyryczne komunikaty już od wielu lat pełnią funkcję dopełniającą dla informacji pojawiających się w mediach mainstreamowych. Stanowią prężnie działające i stale ewoluujące medium komunikacji młodego pokolenia. Odpowiadają również potrzebom z szeroko pojętej komunikacji zapośredniczonej przez komputer (CMC), która polega przede wszystkim na wymianie znaków i symboli między użytkownikami, zanurzonych w mikro- i makrokontekstach. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań nad memami internetowymi o tematyce wojny w Ukrainie. Ilościowej analizie zawartości poddano reprezentatywną próbę memów z portalu kwejk.pl, opublikowanych w pierwszym miesiącu konfliktu. Uzyskane wyniki prezentują syntetyczny obraz wojny przez pryzmat jej głównych aktorów, wydarzeń i konotacji. Pozwalają również na odtworzenie agendy tematycznej, która na przełomie lutego i marca 2022 uzupełniała dominujący w mediach dyskurs. Stanowi on jednocześnie głos młodych użytkowników sieci w debacie publicznej na temat sytuacji międzynarodowej, przejawiający się w specyficznej dla cyfrowych komunikatów formie.

The popularity of image forums (so-called imageboards or chans) is growing on the Internet. These forums are distinguished by the mechanic and subculture aimed at anonymisation of users, encapsulation of the community and providing evanescence of published content. All these factors permanently prevent or substantially restrain a possibility of establishing the authorship of works that were published for the first time on chans. Present article is an attempt to explain to what extent works published on chans are subject of protection of the law and to what extent further use of these works is licit. The author considers the following three conceptions. Firstly, it can be assumed that those works all fully protected by law and the free use is inadmissible. Secondly, it is also justifiable to treat those works as orphan works or abandoned works. It can be finally assumed that works published on chans were released under a license similar to the Creative Commons license.

W Internecie niesłabnącą popularnością cieszą się internetowe fora obrazkowe (tzw. imageboardy lub chany), których cechą charakterystyczną jest mechanika oraz podkultura dążące do anonimizacji użytkowników, hermetyzacji społeczności i zapewnienie efemeryczności publikowanych treści. To wszystko w trwały sposób uniemożliwia lub poważnie utrudnia ustalenie autorstwa utworu opublikowanego po raz pierwszy na chanie. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytania, w jakim zakresie utwory publikowane na chanach są chronione przez prawo i w jakim zakresie możliwe jest dalsze z nich korzystanie.
