Beuverie express, biture express ou alcool défonce : parler de binge drinking et de consommation d’alcool en français

Binge drinking is a phenomenon of excessive alcohol use that is becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, mainly among young people. The purpose of binge drinking, already known officially as beuverie express in French, is to get drunk and feel the effects of alcohol in a very short period of time. On the basis of a corpus composed of blogs, online press articles and forum discussions, our article aims at analysing how Internet users name this phenomenon in French and how they speak about the various aspects of the given semantic field (excessive alcohol drinking, types of drinks, drunkenness, etc.). Our study found that this semantic field, also known as an important topic of argotology, is particularly favourable for the use of slang, a high number of expressions are employed by Internet users to speak about the phenomenon of binge drinking and that of alcohol use in general in colloquial/slang French.

Le binge drinking est un phénomène de consommation excessive d’alcool, de plus en plus répandu dans le monde entier, principalement chez les jeunes. Le binge drinking, déjà connu officiellement sous le nom de beuverie express en français, a pour objectif d’arriver à l’état d’ivresse et de ressentir les effets de l’alcool en très peu de temps. Sur la base d’un corpus composé de blogs, d’articles de presse en ligne et de forums de discussion, notre article analyse la manière dont les internautes dénomment ce phénomène en français et parlent de différents aspects du champ sémantique en question (consommation excessive d’alcool, types de boissons, ivresse, etc.). Notre étude a démontré que ce champ sémantique, connu pour son caractère argotogène, est particulièrement favorable à l’utilisation du français non standard : les internautes utilisent un grand nombre d’expressions pour parler du phénomène du binge drinking et, en général, de la consommation d’alcool en français.
