School, as the place of the interaction with others and the interaction of various social groups, struggles with a wide range of challenges to fulfil social functions in a multicultural society. The article shows the analysis of social functions of education and schools in the perspective of the structural-functional, conflict and interpretative approach as well as social approach. On this basis, the author tries to show the concept of school functioning in a multicultural society, taking into account the value of the society that provides an important social basis for students in order to master the cultural skills required for their proper interaction with people from different cultures. What is more, an appropriate attention was given to the family, local and regional environment, national culture and the culture of humanity. Socialisation reflects the process of students’ acquisition of knowledge, their perception of the world and functioning in a modern society.

Szkoła w społeczeństwie wielokulturowym jako miejsce kontaktów z Innymi i wzajemnego oddziaływania różnych grup społecznych zmaga się z różnymi wyzwaniami w realizacji funkcji społecznych. W artykule ukazana została analiza społecznych funkcji edukacji i szkoły w perspektywie koncepcji strukturalno-funkcjonalnej, konfliktowej, interpretatywnej i podejścia środowiskowego. Na tym tle podjęto próbę zarysowania koncepcji pracy szkoły w społeczeństwie wielokulturowym, z uwzględnieniem jakości środowiska, które stanowi ważne zaplecze socjalizacyjne uczniów i opanowania kompetencji kulturowych niezbędnych do sprawnego obcowania z ludźmi pochodzącymi z różnych kultur. Zwrócono uwagę na środowisko rodzinne, lokalne, regionalne, a także na kulturę narodową i ogólnoludzką. Dokonująca się socjalizacja oznacza proces budowania wiedzy uczniów, modelowania ich percepcji świata i działania w tym świecie.
