Przedmiotem artykułu jest ocena transformacji systemu bankowego w Polsce. Z perspektywy ponad dwudziestu lat doświadczeń Autor krytycznie ocenia realizowany proces zmian w tym sektorze gospodarki. W ocenie Autora przyczyną tego stanu rzeczy jest słabość instytucji państwa. Sugeruje on, że należy dążyć do zwiększenia udziału kapitału polskiego na rynku bankowym, wykorzystując w tym celu potencjał jednostek samorządu terytorialnego, spółdzielczych kas oszczędnościowo-kredytowych i banków spółdzielczych.

The subject of this article is the evaluation of the transformation of banking system in Poland. From the perspective of more than twenty years of experience, the Author is critical of the implemented changes in this sector of economy. In his view, the reason for this is the weakness of state institutions. He suggests that efforts should be made to increase the share of domestic capital in Polish banking market, using the potential of local government units, cooperative savings and credit associations and cooperative banks.
