The article offers to resolve the confusion about the firearms of the Byzantine era. The argument proposed is that the Byzantines could have used ancient weapons, namely firearms known from the Peloponnesian War. This hypothesis has been confronted with sources containing descriptions of firearms. The article also takes into account the leading discourse in this matter and other alternatives, not excluding them, but only extending the existing assumptions by a new possibility.

Tekst przedstawia propozycję rozwikłania niejasności w kwestii broni ogniowej czasów bizantyńskich. Propozycją tą jest możliwość wykorzystywania przez Bizantyńczyków rozwiązań starożytnych, mianowicie broni ogniowej znanej od czasów wojny peloponeskiej. Zaproponowana hipoteza została skonfrontowana ze źródłami zawierającymi opisy broni ogniowej. Uwzględnia też wiodący dyskurs w tej materii oraz inne alternatywy, nie wykluczając ich, a jedynie poszerzając dotychczasowe założenia o nową możliwość.
