Współczesne poszukiwania zrównoważonego i trwałego miejskiego środowiska są bardzo intensywnie. Zieleń staje się jednym z ważniejszych obiektów badawczych. Integralna rola natury w kształtowaniu warunków zdrowego życia jest niepodważalna. Historia współczesnej idei zielonej architektury, w tym integracji form roślinnych z budynkami, sięga XX-wiecznych idei modernistycznych przefiltrowanych przez ruch ekologiczny lat 60. Potencjał hybryd roślinno-architektonicznych wzrasta, zwłaszcza w przestrzeniach intensywnej śródmiejskiej zabudowy.

The contemporary research for a sustainable and resilient urban environment is developing very rapidly. Greenery is one of the most important objects of study. The integral role of nature in shaping the conditions of a healthy life is unquestionable. The history of modern green architecture, including plants’ integration with buildings, dates back to the twentiethcentury modernist ideas filtered by the ecological movement of the 1960s. The potential of architectural-plant hybrid forms is increasing, especially in the areas of intensive urban development in city centres.
