The presidency of the Council of the European Union is a period in which a member state presides over the meetings of the Council of the European Union. While holding the presidency, the state sets its priorities for activities in many areas, such as the social life of EU citizens and the functioning of the EU. Among these activities, there are health priorities that specify in detail the most important problems and goals connected with healthcare systems, the health status and health problems of EU citizens. The aim of this article was to briefly present the health priorities of particular presidencies of the Council of the EU in the past few years and to present the goals of the Polish presidency in matters concerning healthcare and methods developed to reach these goals. The final part of the article discusses the similarities and differences between health priorities of the presidencies held before the Polish presidency.

W pracy przedstawiono czynniki wpływające na zdrowie człowieka oraz rolę prawidłowego żywienia dla jego zachowania. Omówiono zalecenia żywieniowe dla mieszkańców Europy, które są formułowane przez organizacje międzynarodowe zajmujące się problematyką wyżywienia ludności: Światową Organizację Zdrowia (WHO) i Organizację Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. Wyżywienia i Rolnictwa (FAO). Przedstawiono zalecenia żywieniowe w Polsce, które są opracowywane przez Instytut Żywności i Żywienia (IŻŻ). Są one upowszechniane w formie graficznej w celu łatwiejszego ich przyswojenia przez konsumentów. Wskazano na przejawy pogarszania się jakości i bezpieczeństwa żywności w Polsce oraz zalecenia w profilaktyce chorób niezakaźnych w UE.

The paper presents factors affecting human health and the role of proper nutrition for its behavior. Nutritional recommendations for the inhabitants of Europe are discussed, which are formulated by international organizations dealing with the issues of board: the World Health Organization (WH0) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Nutritional recommendations in Poland, which are prepared by the Institute of Food and Nutrition (IŻŻ), were presented. They are disseminated in graphic form in order to facilitate their assimilation by consumers. The symptoms of deterioration of food quality and safety in Poland as well as recommendations in the prevention of non-communicable diseases in the EU were pointed out.
