The paper aims to identify the determinants of exports in high-technology sectors (high-tech, HT) of Visegrad countries (the Visegrad four, V4: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary) and the core member states of the European Union (EU). Based on the augmented gravity model, we estimate the regressions on panel data of the bilateral export flows of the EU-15 and V4 with the rest of the world in 1999−2011, by employing the Poisson pseudo-maximum-likelihood (PPML) estimator. The comparison of the estimations of overall export flows with the estimates explicitly done for the high-tech sectors allows us to outline the main characteristics of the existing gap in high-tech export performances of the EU-15 and V4. Estimation results find that while for the EU-15, human capital accumulation is statistically significant and export flows increase with similarity in physical capital accumulation of the trade partner; for V4, instead of similarity, the difference in physical capital stock increases exports and human capital accumulation does not yield statistically significant effects.

This work refers to one of the hierarchical organizations, which is the police. The example of the Municipal Crowd Management (Stołeczne Stanowisko Kierowania; SSK) has been chosen as the basis for a detailed analysis presented in this article. The Department, as the place where the work of many individuals, departments and services is integrated, must demonstrate a high level of knowledge, competence, and coordination activities. The innovative technologies appear to be the unquestionable support. They should primarily serve the needs of managing knowledge on the efficient actions in relation to the socio- market requirements. In case of this organization, these solutions play a vital part in the creation of intelligent organization to support its activities focused on delivering effective public services and thus contributing to build the knowledge economy in Poland. An attempt to present the discussed issues has been taken in this study.

Companies today face volatile environments, short product life cycles, and changing customer requirements, which is especially the case in high-technology fields. In such environments, concentrating only on technological and product innovations is not sufficient to gain competitive advantages. Instead, companies need innovative business models in order to stand out from their competitors. To successfully change business models, companies require appropriate competencies. Thus, the objective of this research is to identify how companies can prepare their business model(s) to counteract environmental changes flexibly. With the aid of the chosen exploratory, qualitative research design, we investigate companies operating in hightechnology branches. In total, 20 companies participated in our study. The interviews were conducted with CEOs, vice-presidents, product managers or other managers responsible for business model developments. The research revealed that companies can prepare the business model and its elements ex ante through developing capabilities in order to raise the flexibility of the business model. These capabilities have to be developed with regard to several internal and external issues driving these changes.

The goals of this research were to identify and describe the HTM sector in Warsaw and to indicate which part had the highest market potential. The article presents the results of a multidimensional and multi-criteria classification analysis. The segmentation analysis performed made it possible to extract the most distinguished subgroups of the HT population. Particular attention was paid to the HTM exporters (HTME) group, which was identified as the most promising group of companies in the HT sector. The description of the HTME subgroup paves the way for further research with the criteria of differentiating and strengthening internal development in the HT population.
