Autor analizuje okulary jako przedmiot codziennego użytku, który przez swoją powszechność staje się dla nas transparentny. Artykuł stanowi pretekst do ukazania charakteru relacji użytkownik-rzecz oraz funkcji i roli, jaką pełnią okulary. Rozważania wokół okularów koncentrują się na kilku aspektach: ich historii, jak również przykładach oddziaływania na nie świata mody i filmu. Okulary są analizowane także jako narzędzie komunikacji interpersonalnej, przedmiot określający status użytkownika oraz nośnik stereotypowych i symbolicznych znaczeń.

The author analyzes the glasses as a object of everyday use, which, because of its universality, disappear from our sight. This topic becomes a pretext to show the nature of the user-object relationship and features, functions, and the role that the glasses play. The analysis of the glasses is made in many aspects: from their history the impact on the world of fashion and film. Glasses are also analyzed as a tool of interpersonal communication and as status, pointing at e.g. media stereotypes and symbolic meanings.
