W bibliotece Pałacu w Ciążeniu zostały odnalezione ważne dokumenty dotyczące historii polskiego wolnomularstwa. Jeden z nich to relacja z rozmowy spisana w okresie międzywojennym przez niemieckiego wolnomularza Kurta Reichla, którą odbył on w 1932 roku z Andrzejem Strugiem, jednym z szefów polskiej masonerii. Rozmowa ta dotyczyła m.in. kwestii nastawienia ideowego i politycznego polskich lóż. Drugi dokument to artykuł historyka Leona Chajna, dotyczący wyżej wspomnianego memorandum, stanowiąca próbę wykorzystania nowych źródeł w historiografii polskich lóż i przedstawienia tej problematyki szerszej publiczności. Trzeci dokument to krytyka artykułu Leona Chajna dokonana przez jego zagorzałego adwersarza profesora Ludwika Hassa. Historiografia polskiego wolnomularstwa, walka pomiędzy dwoma historykami wolnomularstwa polskiego, niepewna kwestia wiarygodności międzywojennego źródła historycznego, obraz polskich lóż międzywojennych i w końcu poglądy oraz postawa Andrzeja Struga, szefa masonerii polskiej – oto główne zagadnienia poruszane w powyższym artykule.

Some precious documents concerning the history of Polish Freemasonry were found in the Ciążeń Palace Library. One of them is an account written in the interwar period by a German Freemason Kurt Reichl; a kind of memorandum on his conversation with the chief of Polish Freemasonry, Andrzej Strug, in 1932. The conversation touches upon many questions, such as the ideology of Polish lodges, their political profile, the attitude towards the internal policy of Poland and other problems, still unknown to historians. Another document is an article by Leon Chajn (a historian) on this memorandum, one of the first attempts in Polish historiography (after the war) to use new sources in reconstructing the history of Polish Masonry and to present it to the public as well. The third and the last document is a commentary on Chajn’s work written by his opponent, also a historian, Professor Ludwik Hass. The historiography of Polish Freemasonry, the struggle between the two Polish historians, the unclear issue of the reliability of the interwar historical source, the profile of Polish interwar lodges and finally the views and opinions of Grand Master Andrzej Strug are the main points of this article.
