The book is a tool of cultural transfer, helping children and adults in different life situations (learning, leisure). Behind it there are people, publish-ers, printers, librarians who shape the culture at various levels (local, regional, national, international). Book institutions play a significant role in the intergen-erational and intercultural transfer. The article presents the initiatives of the Workshop of Dictionary of Polish book labourers for the biographical registra-tion of people associated with the process of creating, distributing and collect-ing prints in Poland.

Książka jest narzędziem transferu kulturowego, pomagającym dzieciom i osobom dorosłym w różnych sytuacjach życiowych (nauka, czas wolny). Za nią stoją ludzie, wydawcy, drukarze, bibliotekarze, którzy kształtują kulturę na różnych poziomach (lokalnym, regionalnym, krajowym, międzynarodowym). Instytucje książki odgrywają znaczącą rolę w procesie transferu kultury – międzypokoleniowym i międzykulturowym. W artykule przedstawione zostały działania Pracowni Słownika pracowników książki polskiej na rzecz rejestracji biograficznej osób związanych z procesem tworzenia, rozpowszechniania oraz gromadzenia druków w Polsce.

This text was presented on 9th May 2012 at the Librarian and Information Science Department, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. The lecture was arranged by this Department, the Book Culture History Section at the Slovak National Library in Martin and the Slovak Academy of Sciences History Institute in Bratislava. The lecture demonstrates that the bases of Czech bibliological research are very closely interconnected with national retrospective bibliography and that this continuity carries on to this day due to personnel restraints. Hence even nowadays no difference is felt between historical bibliography and bibliology. However, historical bibliography is lacking a modern national plan for historical books fonds and ways to process them and make them digitally available. New bibliological research needs to be conceived separately and emancipated from routine bibliographical procedures. Bibliology should not be understood as static and positivistically oriented, but as an interdisciplinary field with links to literary history, art studies, musicology and so forth The sociocultural functions of the book should also be foregrounded, as should research into reading and the readership community from the standpoint of historical development. The pedagogical process should also be motivated by these considerations, which will help it begin to attain a higher standard with regard to bibliology and the history of book culture.

„Biblioteczka Toruńska” to seria popularnonaukowa powstała dla uczczenia jubileuszu 750-lecia miast pomorskich Torunia i Chełmna. Jej wydawcą było Toruńskie Towarzystwo Kultury zasłużone w pogłębianiu świadomość historycznej wśród mieszkańców miasta. W latach 1980–1984, ukazało się dwanaście kolejno numerowanych tomików, które w ujęciu popularnonaukowym prezentowały historię, tradycję i kulturę regionu. Za opracowanie graficzne cyklu odpowiedzialny był Zygfryd Gardzielewski, a funkcję redaktora wydawnictw pełnił Alojzy Tujakowski. Edycja serii została zakończona w 1984 r., ale nurt wydawnictw popularnonaukowych był kontynuowany w nowej inicjatywie – „Biblioteczce Toruńskiego Towarzystwa Kultury”. Artykuł przybliża okoliczności powstania pierwszego cyklu wydawniczego Toruńskiego Towarzystwa Kultury. Szeroko prezentuje pozycje, które znalazły się w planach wydawniczych tej serii, ale ostatecznie nie ukazały się drukiem.

“Toruń’s book collection” is a series for the general public, which was created to commemorate the 750th anniversary of two Pomeranian towns – Toruń and Chełmno. Its publisher was the Toruń Society of Culture, which rendered great service to broaden the historical consciousness of Toruń’s inhabitants. In the years 1980-1984 twelve volumes presenting the history, tradition and culture of the region to the general public were published. Zygfryd Gardzielewski was responsible for the graphic design, and Alojzy Tujakowski was an editor. The edition of the series was finished in 1984, but there appeared a similar initiative – “Book Collection of the Toruń Society of Culture”- which continued the tradition of publishing books for the general public. The article describes the circumstances of the creation of the first publishing cycle of the Toruń Society of Culture. It lists books which were to have been published, but eventually never occurred in print.

Die „Biblioteczka Toruńska” [Thorner Handbibliothek] ist eine populärwissenschaftliche Reihe, die zu Ehren des 750. Jubiläums der pommerschen Städte Thorn/Toruń und Kulm/Chełmno entstand. Ihr Herausgeber war der Thorner Kulturverein, der sich um die Vertiefung des historischen Bewusstseins unter den Einwohnern dieser Städte verdient gemacht hat. In den Jahren 1980-1984 erschienen zwölf fortlaufend nummerierte Bände, die die Geschichte, Tradition und Kultur der Region populärwissenschaftlich präsentierten. Verantwortlich für die graphische Bearbeitung des Zyklus war Zygfryd Gardzielewski, die Funktion des Verlagsredakteurs übte Alojzy Tujakowski aus. Die Edition der Reihe wurde 1984 eingestellt, aber die Strömung der populärwissenschaftlichen Publikationen wurde in einer neuen Initiative fortgesetzt – und zwar in der „Biblioteczka Toruńskiego Towarzystwa Kultury” [Handbibliothek des Thorner Kulturvereins]. Der Artikel bringt die Entstehungsumstände des ersten Publikationszyklus des Thorner Kulturvereins näher. Ausführlich präsentiert werden Positionen, die sich in den Publikationsplänen dieser Reihe befanden, aber letztendlich nicht gedruckt wurden.

Česká národní retrospektivní bibliografie jako pomůcka a výzva pro literární historii

This paper attempts to present the literary studies community amongst others with the current state of the national retrospective bibliography and related issues, and to initiate a debate on the subject. The introduction defines the term "national retrospective bibliography" and subsequently presents a comparative summary of European retrospective bibliographies, their electronic processing and the provision of access to them, with particular attention being paid to Central Europe. Attention then focuses on the Czech national retrospective bibliography, its structure (i.e. its division into separate individual projects) and in particular its current technical and methodological issues, for which a definition is attempted and a possible solution is offered.
