While considerable space has been devoted by Polish scholars to the politically motivated street name changes at turning points in Polish history, especially after WW2 or after the fall of Communism in 1989, not as much attention has been paid to certain less obvious manifestations of politicizing urban toponymy. Among these, one may invoke some Polish post-war street names referring to the Piast dynasty, to Slavic heritage, or to the 1410 victory of the joint Polish-Lithuanian forces over the Teutonic Knights in the battle of Grunwald. The article discusses such street names: specific onyms, their motivation, history and statistics, stressing their prevalence in the so-called ‘Recovered Territories’, i.e. pre-war German areas incorporated into Poland after WW2. Less numerous onyms are motivated by West Slavic tribes and by Slavic versions of some eastern German toponyms. In contrast with the streets named after Communist party leaders, where the element of propaganda is easily discernible, the ideological implications of the hodonymy discussed here are covert; consequently, after 1989 these names usually did not undergo de-Communisation. Yet at the time of their bestowal, such names carried a very specific ideological load.

Zatímco polští vědci věnovali významný prostor politicky motivovaným změnám uličních názvů v meznících polské historie, zvláště po 2. světové válce a po pádu komunismu v roce 1989, mnohem méně pozornosti bylo věnováno méně zřetelné manifestaci politizace urbanonymie. Mezi těmito případy jsou poválečná uliční pojmenování odkazující k dynastii Piastovců, ke slovanskému dědictví nebo k roku 1410, kdy spojené polsko-litevsko-ruské síly zvítězily nad německými rytíři v bitvě u Grunwaldu. Text se zabývá takovýmito specifickými uličními názvy, jejich motivací, historií, a zastoupením, s důrazem na jejich převahu v tzv. Zemích znovuzískaných, tedy v předválečných německých územích připojených k Polsku po 2. světové válce. Méně častá byla pojmenování motivovaná jmény západoslovanských kmenů a slovanskými variantami některých východoněmeckých toponym. Na rozdíl od ulic pojmenovaných po komunistických vůdcích, kde je propagandistický prvek snadno rozpoznatelný, ideologické pozadí hodonym, jimiž se zde zabýváme, je skryté; po roce 1989 tato jména nebyla zasažena dekomunizací. Ještě v době jejich vzniku měla taková jména velmi specifický obsah.
