Inclusive education requires a fundamental shift in attitudes about student development and the nature of schooling. Service Learning is a powerful teaching method that connects meaningful community service with academic learning, personal growth, civic responsibility, and reflective experience. Universal Design for Learning is an approach for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone: not a single solution, but rather, flexible approaches that can be adjusted to accommodate individual needs. Integrating Service Learning and Universal Design provides opportunities for school and community inclusion that focus on students’ strengths and positive traits.

Edukacja włączająca wymaga fundamentalnych zmian w nastawieniu do rozwoju ucznia i istoty kształcenia. Prace społeczne (Service Learning) to metoda nauczania o wielkiej mocy, która łączy w sobie konkretne działania na rzecz społeczności i naukę, rozwój osobisty, odpowiedzialność obywatelską oraz skłaniające do refleksji doświadczenie. Uniwersalne projektowanie zajęć dydaktycznych (Universal Design for Learning) to podejście służące do tworzenia edukacyjnych celów, metod, materiałów i diagnoz, które będą nadawały się dla każdego ucznia: nie jedno rozwiązanie dla wszystkich, ale raczej elastyczne podejścia, które można odpowiednio dostosować, żeby uwzględniały indywidualne potrzeby. Połączenie prac społecznych z projektowaniem uniwersalnym daje szansę na takie włączanie uczniów w życie szkoły i społeczności, które koncentruje się na ich mocnych stronach i pozytywnych cechach.

In questo articolo si prende in considerazione l’importante problema delle attività didattiche dei francescani polacchi a Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas – Ecuador. Scopo precipuo è quello di mostrare la funzione pedagogica e sociale dell’associazione “Gioia di Vivere”, che opera in collaborazione con il “Centro Caritas Antoniana Alegria de vivir” nell’ambito di una più vasta ricerca corrente, designata dall’UNESCO (“L’educazione per tutti”), per quanto riguarda le attività di inclusione. Si presentano i risultati di una ricerca condotta che coinvolge nel progetto tre diversi soggetti: beneficiari, volontari del progetto e assistenti sociali. In primo luogo l‘Autore delinea le attività educative della Chiesa in America Centrale in prospettiva storica, descrivendo in particolare il progetto educativo nella missione francescana, che ha come scopo precipuo l’inclusione, l’educazione e la promozione sociale, con le persone con disabilità intellettiva e la salute mentale. In secondo luogo l’Autore mostra quanto grande sia la loro influenza sulla trasformazione della vita sociale. Alla fine si evidenziano gli effetti pedagogici del progetto: l’integrazione nelle comunità locali e il volontariato come strumento per la formazione dei giovani. In conclusione, quest’articolo offre un’approfondita riflessione sui metodi e sui possibili risultati della pedagogia inclusiva.

The article discusses the educational activities of the Polish Franciscans in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, Ecuador. First of all, it presents a pedagogical analysis of the “Joy of Life” project, conducted in cooperation with “Centro Caritas Antoniana Alegria de Vivir.” This reflection is a part of the current research area, designated by UNESCO (“Education for All”), relating to the inclusive measures. The article cites the results of the research carried out among three different groups involved in the project: its beneficiaries, volunteers and social assistants. In the beginning, the author outlines the educational actions of the Church in Central America in historical terms, and then, in this context, he describes the educational project carried out during the Franciscan mission. The specific features of this project are inclusive, educational and social activities, including those with intellectual and mental disabilities. Discussing the nature of these activities, the author shows how far they affect the transformation of social life. He shows the pedagogical effects of the project: the integration of local communities and volunteering as a tool for the youth formation. The experience described in the article is valuable for reflection on inclusive pedagogy.

W niniejszym artykule została przedstawiona problematyka działalności polskich franciszkanów, przebywających w ekwadorskiej miejscowości Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, w zakresie edukacji ogólnej. Głównym celem jest przybliżenie specyfiki podejmowanej pracy pedagogicznej oraz sytuacji społecznej stowarzyszenia „Radość Życia”, które współpracuje z Centrum „Caritas Antoniana Alegria de Vivir”, w kontekście badań dotyczących integracji społecznej, prowadzonych obecnie przez UNESCO („Edukacja dla wszystkich”). Zaprezentowano również wyniki przeprowadzonych badań uwzględniając udział trzech różnych podmiotów: odbiorców/podopiecznych, wolontariuszy projektu i pracowników socjalnych. W pierwszej części autor przedstawia działalność edukacyjną Kościoła katolickiego w Ameryce Środkowej z perspektywy historycznej, szczególną uwagę poświęcając misji prowadzonej przez zakon franciszkanów. Nadrzędnym celem zainicjowanego przez ten zakon projektu jest integracja społeczna, edukacja oraz nobilitacja osób niepełnosprawnych i z zaburzeniami psychicznymi. W dalszej części artykułu autor wskazuje na ogromne przemiany społeczne zachodzące pod wpływem wcielania w życie powyżej wspomnianego projektu. Opisuje jego efekty szkoleniowo-wychowawcze, czyli integrację społeczności lokalnej oraz możliwość formowania młodych ludzi, a także analizuje metody i prawdopodobne rezultaty stosowania pedagogiki inkluzywnej.
