W artykule dokonano analizy interakcji – niezwykle złożonej i bezprecedensowej – niematerialnej (kulturowej) na historycznym Szlaku Jedwabnym. Ta właśnie płaszczyzna interakcji inspiruje również współczesne działania związane z Inicjatywą Pasa i Szlaku. Szczególnie ważny dla autora jest fakt, iż mechanizm ekonomiczny, będący siłą napędową historycznego Szlaku, stał się zaproponowaną – niejako alternatywną dla historii tradycyjnej – ścieżką rozwoju ludzkości, w której tradycja, wynikająca z kultu przemocy, stanowiła w istocie nieprzerwany ciąg wojen i podbojów. Kreśląc główne elementy, ogłoszonej przez Prezydenta Xi Jinpinga w 2013 r., Inicjatywy Pasa i Szlaku, zestawiono profil współczesnego projektu z bezprecedensowymi osiągnięciami jego historycznego odpowiednika i postawiono pytania o – między innymi – najważniejsze lekcje z przeszłości, wnioski oraz o inspiracje z tym związane. Współczesnym Chinom zależy na tym, aby ich dotychczasowy sukces w dziedzinie produkcji i handlu w dobie postępującej globalizacji został teraz przypieczętowany projektem Pasa i Szlaku tworzącym nową infrastrukturę transportu i handlu w skali świata. W perspektywie mogłoby to nawet stworzyć podstawy nowego ładu globalnego, który – paradoksalnie – mógłby zawierać określone korekty w stosunku do tego porządku, który otworzył drogę na sam szczyt właśnie Chinom.

In his paper, the author analyses a complex non-material (cultural) interaction on the historic Silk Road that appears to be very complex and unprecedented. To the impressive material exchange, based mainly on trade, the Silk Road inspires the today’s Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. Especially important for the author is the fact that the economic mechanism of trade, which was the main driving force of the ancient trade route, has potentially become the proposed, alternative development path for humanity, where tradition, resulting from the cult of violence, was in fact a virtually uninterrupted string of wars and conquests. The outlining of main elements of the Initiative, announced by President Xi Jinping in 2013, is used by the author to compare the profile of this modern project with the unprecedented historical achievements of its historic predecessor. The questions are asked about - among other things - the most important lessons from the past, conclusions and inspirations for the modern initiative. Contemporary China would like to seal its to-date globalisation success in the field of production and trade with the gigantic project of Belt and Road with the aim to create a new infrastructure for transportation and trade on the truly global scale. In the long run, this could even lay the groundwork for the new world order, which – paradoxically - could contain certain adjustments to the order conceived by the West, which has opened the way to the top for China.

The regionalist spirit has been revived during recent years in Croatia. The spirit can be called “new regionalism” as opposed to the tendencies which shaped the Croatian culture for centuries. The new situation can also be referred to as “map decentralization” which is visible in the interest in fringe areas and peripheries. Slavonia, the area of intersection and meeting of different cultures, is also undergoing significant changes. In the Croatian prose there are attempts at recreating the Central European spirit of the region by means of finding traces of the past due to a kind of literary archeology which aims at finding what Aleida Assmann would call “traces, relicts, furrows and wounds” which characterize the particular places. An interesting case of such searching is the prose of authors of German origin, particularly Ludwig Bauer who is the author of a novel which revives the spirit of the borderland.

W ostatnich latach w Chorwacji ożywa duch regionalizmu, który można by nazwać „nowym regionalizmem” w odróżnieniu od tendencji, jakie przez wieki kształtowały oblicze kultury chorwackiej. Można również określić nową sytuację mianem „decentralizacji mapy”, wyrażającą się w zainteresowaniu obszarami granicznymi, peryferiami. Slawonia, przestrzeń przecięcia się i spotkania różnych kultur, również przeżywa znaczące przemiany. W prozie chorwackiej pojawiają się próby odtworzenia środkowoeuropejskiego ducha regionu poprzez odkrywanie śladów przeszłości, za sprawą swego rodzaju literackiej archeologii zmierzającej do odnalezienia, mówiąc słowami Aleidy Assmann „śladów, reliktów, bruzd i ran” określających dane miejsca. Interesującym przypadkiem takiego poszukiwania jest proza autorów pochodzenia niemieckiego, szczególnie Ludwiga Bauera, autora powieści wskrzeszających ducha pogranicza.
