Companies doing business with foreign entities are exposed in their international supply chains to a number of potential risks. Although, the scientific literature through conducted researches extracts many methods of supply chain risk management, it is important to review the factors that cause these risks. Company incurs much lower costs due to focusing on potential risk factors, rather than risk management, which has already occurred in the supply chain. Article analyzes the risk factors, focusing primarily on relational factors associated with collaboration in supply chains. Included is also the division of the factors on which company has direct influence or only indirect. The paper presents case of two companies that show very low risk in their operations. Although, these companies come from different industries, such as the furniture industry and IT, they both claim that they do not experience risk in their supply chains. Therefore the question is about the factors influencing this situation.

Przedsiębiorstwa prowadzące wymianę handlową z podmiotami zagranicznymi są narażone we własnych międzynarodowych łańcuchach dostaw na szereg potencjalnych ryzyk. Chociaż literatura naukowa dzięki prowadzonym badaniom wyodrębnia wiele metod zarządzania ryzykiem w łańcuchach dostaw, istotne jest dokonanie przeglądu czynników, które to ryzyko wywołują. Przedsiębiorstwo ponosi bowiem znacznie niższe koszty koncentrując się na potencjalnych czynnikach ryzyka, aniżeli zarządzaniu ryzykiem, które już się pojawiło w łańcuchu dostaw. Artykuł dokonuje analizy czynników ryzyka, skupiając się przede wszystkim na czynnikach relacyjnych związanych ze współpracą w łańcuchach dostaw. W pracy opisany zostaje również podział na czynniki, na które przedsiębiorstwo może oddziaływać bezpośrednio oraz, na które przedsiębiorstwo posiada wpływ wyłącznie pośredni. Artykuł prezentuje także przypadek dwóch przedsiębiorstw, które w prowadzonej działalności wykazują bardzo niski poziom ryzyka w łańcuchach dostaw. Pomimo że firmy te pochodzą z całkowicie odmiennych sektorów, jak branża meblarska oraz IT, można zauważyć między nimi pewne podobieństwa, które sprawiają, że obydwa przedsiębiorstwa twierdzą, że nie odczuwają ryzyka w swoich łańcuchach dostaw. Tym samym istotne jest jakie czynniki wpływają na taką sytuację.

Companies that operate internationally due to the complexity of commercial transactions are increasingly exposed to the negative consequences of existing threats that do not exist any longer only in the local environment. Enterprise in order to prevent such situations has to analyze risk in their supply chain and develop appropriate methods of its management in the form of prevention and mitigation of potential impacts. Because the literature is relatively rare in studies on international risk management, and its incidence is increasing strongly, the article presents possible solutions with an emphasis on the international aspect. As the risk that hypothetically occurs outside of the supply chain affects it interior in the increasing level, hence the need to develop appropriate methods for dealing with such situations. By analyzing various risk management methods and their mutual comparison, it is possible to show the desirability of their applications for enterprises embedded in international supply chains.
