Szczepienia ochronne od kilkudziesięciu lat stanowią racjonalny i najbardziej skuteczny sposób w walce z groźnymi chorobami zakaźnymi. Badania oceniające skuteczność programów powszechnych szczepień przeciw pneumokokom mogą indukować efekt ochrony zbiorowiskowej. Szczególne znaczenie w dążeniu do budowania odporności populacji ma stan wiedzy rodziców na temat szczepień. Pielęgniarka jako pracownik medyczny stanowi źródło informacji i rzetelnej wiedzy na temat szczepień. Celem pracy było zaprezentowanie aktualnej wiedzy na temat szczepień ochronnych jako profilaktyki zakażeń Streptococcus pneumoniae u dzieci.

Vaccination has been the most rational and effective method of combating serious infectious diseases for many decades now. According to many researchers the effectiveness of pneumococcal vaccination programs can induce „community immunity” protection effects. Parent’s knowledge about vaccination is particulary important to build immunity of the population. A nurse as a medical professional is a source of knowledge about vaccination. The aim of the study was to present current knowledge about vaccination as a method of prevention against Streptococcus pneumoniae infection in children.
