The works of Marguerite Duras show visible hybridity, broadly understood as a mixture of genres, correspondence of the arts, or intertextuality. Her texts reflect, par excellence, this tendency because they keep departing from classical forms. Consequently, the same text can be interpreted as a novel, screenplay, or film. This transgression seemingly results from the versatility of changing artistic interests of Duras, who, while writing, was fascinated by film-making and all possibilities of experimentation. The transgression is confirmed by a kind of polyphony of voices in her works, which makes them both extremely suggestive and open. A prime example of this technique is Le Navire Night. According to the concept of poetical-novelistic or cinematic writing, it can be seen as a ‘hybrid’ work. Therefore, Le Navire Night is sometimes read as a poem as understood by Henri Meschonnic, referring to the creativity of the author, especially in the field of language

The Polish version of the article was published in “Roczniki Humanistyczne,” vol. 59 (2011), issue 1. Modern theoretical-literary treatises, defined as normative poetics, are usually connected with the dominance of the convention and normativism, with obligatory rules, canonical concepts and restrictive directives hampering originality. The present text tries to revise the conviction that convention is a dominant tendency in the development of the old theoretical thought; it tends to show the avant-garde aspects of modern poetics and to present the relations between what is conventional and what is innovative in the most original theoretical texts of late Renaissance and Baroque. Examples of two avant-garde modern poetics—Francesco Patrizi’s theory of wonder formed at the end of the 16th century and the 17th century Emanuele Tesauro’s conceptistic theory—show that tradition and convention are necessary elements of inventive theories. The avant-garde of poetics of the past, contrary to the avant-garde of the 20th century, is not born from the defiance of the earlier theories but is formed by way of modernizing and transforming them. Old inventive theories—despite all the departures from tradition—are still part of the classical paradigm. Hence, the avant-garde character of late-Renaissance and Baroque theoretical reflection consists in a peculiar synergy of convention and novelty.

TRIZ to teoria rozwiązywania problemów wynalazczych. Została opracowana w zespole kierowanym przez H.S. Altszullera, który z wykorzystaniem statystycznej analizy patentów (ponad 40 tys.) poszukiwał wzorów innowacyjnych rozwiązań. W przeciwieństwie do metody prób i błędów TRIZ pozwala na pominięcie błędnych koncepcji i dzięki temu szybciej prowadzi do znalezienia optymalnego rozwiązania. Istotą TRIZ jest pokonanie inercji psychicznej (wektor inercji) wynikającej z przyzwyczajeń, edukacji i doświadczeń. Ta z założenia inżynierska metoda znajduje obecnie coraz więcej zwolenników niemal w każdej dziedzinie, również wśród przedstawicieli nauk społecznych.

TRIZ is the theory of inventive problem solving (TIPS). It was elaborated by a research team led by H. S. Altszuller after a statistical analysis of more than 40,000 patents that sought to identify patterns of innovative solutions. In contrast to the trial-and-error method, TRIZ, thanks to its ability to bypass faulty concepts, allows for the optimal solution to be found in a more effective way. TRIZ’s main feature is that it overcomes psychological inertia (“inertia’s vector”) resulting from habits, education and experience. Commonly considered an engineering method, TRIZ is becoming more and more popular among researchers in nearly all scientific fields, including representatives of the social sciences and economy.

The article presents the problems of building and maintaining urban transport infrastructure in Warsaw at the turn of the 20th century. The text concerns Kajetan Mościcki (1855–1933), engineer, who was appointed by the acting Mayor of Warsaw, General Sokrates Starynkiewicz, to the position of senior city engineer and head of the municipal construction department, where he worked from 1889 to 1909. During this period, he paved the streets which were worn or damaged by sewerage works with wooden blocks and covered the sidewalks with concrete slabs. He designed the first slip road in the Kingdom of Poland in the form of a spiral, and he also participated in the construction of the oldest road engineering structures made of reinforced concrete, located in Ujazdowski Park and on Karowa street in Warsaw, the first Warsaw power plant and the second city bridge across the Vistula. In addition to his professional activity, Kajetan Mościcki was an inventor in the fields of mechanics and electrical engineering. At the end of his life, he founded an award that the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences was to grant to Polish scientists for outstanding achievements.
