In the article the author analyses Krzysztof Izak’s book The Lexicon of Radical Organisations and Islamic Movements. Hepolemicizeswith some of the theses proposed inthe Lexicon, with the descriptions of wahhabism, jihadism, or radicalism in particular. On the other hand, the author also notes that K. Izak managed to present the complexity of islamic radicalism in a very clear way. In conclusion, M. Sadowski highlights the scientific and epistemic merits of the Lexicon, noting that it does not have any equivalents in the Polish scientific literature concerning this subject.

Artykuł zawiera analizę różnic w rozumieniu władzy państwowej i prawa na Zachodzie i w regionie Islamu. Jego celem jest znalezienie przyczyn szczególnej skłonności społeczeństw muzułmańskich do autokratyzmu i teokratyzmu. Zbadane zostały historyczne przemiany ustrojowe w Europie i w krajach muzułmańskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Sudanu. Następnie prześledzono procesy, jakie doprowadziły do rozwoju fundamentalizmu i radykalizacji społeczności muzułmańskich w Europie jak i w państwach arabskich. Stwierdzono nieefektywność polityki Unii Europejskiej mającej na celu upowszechnienie demokracji w regionie Islamu. W konkluzji stwierdzono, że podstawowym problemem i pierwotnym źródłem trudności jest nienaruszalność i dogmatyczny charakter prawa koranicznego.

The article contains an analysis of differences in the understanding of state power and law in the West and in the Islamic region. Its purpose is to find the reasons for the Muslim societies' particular propensity for autocracy and theocracy. Historical political changes in Europe and in Muslim countries were examined, with particular reference to Sudan. Then, the processes that led to the development of fundamentalism and the radicalization of Muslim communities in Europe as well as in the Arab states were investigated. Ineffectiveness of the European Union's policy aimed at popularizing democracy in the Islamic region was found. In conclusion, it was stated that the basic problem and primary source of difficulty is the inviolability and dogmatic character of Koranic law.

Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest przedstawienie koncepcji wyjaśniających zaangażowanie dzieci i młodzieży w islamistyczną działalność terrorystyczną. Środki masowego przekazu forsują pogląd, zgodnie z którym przyczyną dla której młodzi ludzie przyłączają się do grup terrorystycznych jest ich stan psychiczny lub osobowość psychopatyczna. Najnowsze teorie dowodzą jednak, że to najzwyczajniejsza młodzież wpada w sidła przestępczości terrorystycznej. Przyczyną angażowania się w taką działalność jest raczej poczucie frustracji wynikające z nieakceptowania swojej pozycji społecznej, problemy tożsamościowe oraz potrzeba autorytetu. Niniejsze przyczyny tłumaczone są za pomocą teorii deprywacji potrzeb oraz poprzez teorię wpływu społecznego. Przytoczone w niniejszym artykule badania dowodzą również, że profil młodzieży angażującej się w działalność terrorystyczną zbieżny jest z profilem młodzieży, która staje się ofiarą sekt, czy innych, skrajnych, nieislamistycznych ugrupowań politycznych.

The main goal of the presented article is the introduction to problem of children and youth involvement in Islamist terrorist activity. The Mass Media are pushing the idea, according to which the reason why young people join terrorist groups is their bad mental state or psychopathic personality. However, the latest theories have proven that it was the most normal, from psychiatric point of view, that young people fall into the trap of terrorist crime. The reason for engaging in such activities is rather a sense of frustration arising from the non-acceptance of their social position, the problems with self – identity and the need for authority. These causes are explained by the Relative Deprivation of Needs Theory and Theory of Social Impact. The study cited in this paper, also shows that the profile of young people engaging in terrorist activities coincides with the profile of youth who becomes a sect victims, or other, non Islamist, extreme political groups.

Czynnik religijny w procesie kształtowania nowego wymiaru nordyckiej wspólnoty kulturowej

Czynnik religijny był nieodłącznym elementem historycznych procesów kształtowania jedności nordyckiej — np. wspólnota okresu dominacji politeizmu nordyckiego, wspólnota chrześcijańska IX-XIII wieku, wspólnota okresu reformacji. Jednocześnie te same zjawiska stanowiły, przynajmniej w pierwszym swoim stadium, wyzwanie dla ustalonego porządku kulturowo- religijnego i niosły ryzyko długotrwałej dezintegracji. Ta dychotomiczna rola czynnika religijnego wobec homogeniczności kulturowej ujawnia się także współcześnie, gdy nowym wyzwaniem stał się ekspansywny islam. Wobec kryzysu idei wielokulturowości pojawiły się dwa nurty społeczne postulujące restaurację tożsamości etnicznych przy jednoczesnym wzmacnianiu kulturowej wspólnoty nordyckiej: kierunek systemowy i natywistyczny oraz kierunek antysystemowy i kontrakulturacyjny.

The religious factor was an unseperable part of the historical processes of shaping Nordic unity—for example the community of the Nordic polytheism domination period, the Christian community of the 9–13th centuries, the community of the Reformation. Simultanously, the same phenomena presented, at least in the first stage, a challenge to the established cultural and religious order, and bore the risk of prolonged disintegration. This dichotomous role of the religious factor in the face of cultural homogeneity is also emerging today as expansive Islam has become a new challenge. In view of the crisis of the multiculturalism idea, two social trends have emerged suggesting a renewal of ethnic identity while strenghtening the cultural Nordic community both the systemic and nativist as well as the anti-system and anticracial direction.
