The process of changes taking place in the countryside can be analyzed in terms of agricultural production, spatial planning, infrastructure facilities, environmental devastation, etc. In this paper, on the example of the Plock district, it was attempted to prove that the location of rural communes in relation to the urban center offering jobs, which is Plock, affects the different dynamics of changes in the distribution and the change of the inhabitants’ sourcesof livelihood. The population of Plock county transformed from agricultural in 1950 to non-agricultural by getting jobs in Plock and starting their own businesses where they lived. In addition, since 2000, there has been a process of de-urbanization in the county. The countryside is becoming an increasingly attractive place to live.

Proces zmian zachodzący na wsi można analizować pod względem produkcji rolniczej, zagospodarowania przestrzennego, wyposażenia w infrastrukturę,dewastacji środowiska naturalnego itd. W niniejszym artykule na przykładzie pow. płockiego starano się udowodnić, że usytuowanie gmin wiejskich względem ośrodka miejskiego oferującego miejsca pracy, jakim jest Płock, wpływa na zróżnicowaną dynamikę zmian w rozmieszczeniu mieszkańców i na zmianę źródeł ich utrzymania. Ludność powiatu płockiego z rolniczej w roku 1950 przekształciła się w nierolniczą poprzez podejmowanie pracy w Płocku i zakładanie własnych firm w miejscu zamieszkania. Ponadto od 2000 r. w powiecie zachodził proces dezurbanizacji. Wieś staje się coraz bardziej atrakcyjnym miejscem zamieszkania.
