The paper discusses connotations of proper names from the point of view of their phrase-creative potential in a confrontative perspective. The following kinds of units containing deonymic components are discussed: units registered in phrase-graphic works, units bordering on phraseology and syntax, occasional units and paraphrased units. The focal point concentrates on the cross-linguistic equivalents of the units at issue, discussed and exemplified in the paper. The conclusion is that the equivalence relies heavily on the connotations of a given proper noun and the existence or lack of a given unit or model in the target language.

This text is the linguists’ voice in the discussion on the human identity, undertaken in the field of social sciences and humanities. An individual is often reduced in this context to the role of a possessor and user of the group ideologies, of which the consequence is accepting the assumption that the differences, distances or discrepancies of interests can be balanced by the similarities, the sense of proximity and the mutual overarching goals, ideas or interests which, however, proves to be difficult task to achieve, particularly when we find ourselves in the melting pot of languages and cultures. According to the authors, an opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of communication in the intercultural relations is provided, among others, by the psycholinguistic research into free associations, as they enable the diagnose of the differences in perception that are one of the most frequent reasons of misunderstandings. The studies on free associations performed so far have revealed such differences which, according to the authors, justifies the need to carry out an associative experiment on the samples of students of three nationalities, i.e. the Poles, Germans and Russians, in order to develop the Polish-German-Russian dictionary of associations, supplemented with a scientific monograph.

Tekst jest głosem językoznawców w dyskusji o tożsamości człowieka podejmowanej na gruncie nauk społecznych i humanistycznych. Jednostka jest w tym kontekście często sprowadzana do roli posiadacza i użytkownika grupowych ideologii, czego konsekwencją bywa przyjmowanie założenia, że różnice, dystanse czy rozbieżności interesów mogą być równoważone przez podobieństwa, poczucie bliskości oraz wspólnotę nadrzędnych celów, idei lub interesów, co okazuje się jednak zadaniem niełatwym, szczególnie wtedy, kiedy znajdziemy się w tyglu języków i kultur. W przekonaniu autorów tekstu pewną szansę podniesienia skuteczności porozumiewania się w relacjach międzykulturowych stwarzają m.in. psycholingwistyczne badania skojarzeń swobodnych. Pozwalają bowiem diagnozować różnice w spostrzeganiu, a to właśnie one są jedną z najczęstszych przyczyn wszelkich nieporozumień. Dotychczasowe badania skojarzeniowe takie różnice ujawniły, co zdaniem autorów opracowania uzasadnia potrzebę przeprowadzenia eksperymentu lingwistycznego na studenckich reprezentacjach trzech grup narodowych, tj. Polaków, Niemców i Rosjan, w celu opracowania polsko-niemiecko-rosyjskiego słownika asocjacyjnego z suplementem w postaci monografii naukowej.

The paper discusses the process of creating feminine names derived from pre-existing masculine names (including names of occupations) and its reception. An outlook of contemporary tendencies leads to conclusions that have to do with how the users of natural languages perceive such phenomena and reality including their hierarchy of values and social relations.It is the people (common language users, non-specialists) that (as demonstrated by practice) decide the final shape of language communication. Intergender relations, communication and social role assignment (and the reasoning behind them) are also considered.

Przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszym artykule uczyniono imiona i nazwy zawodów, a dokładnie proces i jego odbiór w związku z tworzeniem żeńskich imion i nazw zawodów od nazw męskich, często od dawna już istniejących. Przyglądanie się współczesnym tendencjom poprowadzi do różnych wniosków, które niewątpliwie mają związek z obecnym postrzeganiem przez użytkowników języka naturalnego, rzeczywistości, hierarchii ważności współczesnego człowieka czy obecnych relacji społecznych, które tworzą ludzie. I to ludzie (zwykli użytkownicy języka, nie specjaliści), co pokazuje praktyka, decydują o ostatecznym kształcie komunikacji językowej. Dotyczy to także relacji między płciami, ich sposobu rozumowania, komunikowania się, przypisywania sobie wzajemnie cech i roli w społeczeństwie.

Zapożyczanie i kalkowanie jednostek frazeologicznych zajmuje ważne miejsce w procesie wzbogacania współczesnej polskiej i ukraińskiej frazeologii. Zjawisko to wpisuje się w tendencję internacjonalizacji leksyki poszczególnych języków. Zarówno język polski, jak i ukraiński, czyli języki blisko spokrewnione, cechuje w ostatnim okresie wzmożona intensywność procesu kalkowania. W artykule autorzy skupiają się na konfrontacji językowej dokładnych i niedokładnych kalk językowych na obszernym materiale językowym pochodzącym z korpusów narodowych i paralelnych oraz innych źródeł.

Borrowing and calquing of phraseological units occupies an important place in the proces of enriching contemporary Polish and Ukrainian phraseology. This phenomenon is part of the tendency to internationalize the lexis of the given languages. Both Polish and Ukrainian, being closely related languages, have recently been characterized by increased intensity of the calquing process. In the article, the authors focus on confrontation of accurate and inaccurate language calques using a vast language material coming from national and parallel corpora and other sources.
