The article shows the attempt of showing the academic and educational achievements of proffesor`s Rev. John Stawarczyk who was an outstanding biblicist and judaist. He was also a worker of Scientific Department of Catholic Theology at University in Warsaw from 1919 to 1944. He was working on the chronology of Ezdrasz and Nehemiasz`s books. He dealt with language issues of the area Hebrew and Logistics studies and worked on the influence of accent on the change of vowels in Hebrew. He developed the history and the doctrins of the main religious books of Mandayan, analyzing cosmogonies, soteriology, eschatology, moral science and liturgy of the Mandayan gnosis. The purpose of the article is to bring back the memory of Rev. John Stawarczyk, his achievements and contribution to the development of biblical studies of the interwar period.

Znana judaistka, która poprzez swoją twórczość przyczyniła się do popularyzacji wymarłego języka i kultury ludności żydowskiej z dawnej Galicji, w oparciu o wspomnienia i własne poszukiwania konstruuje swoje miasto rodzinne Żółkiew. Analiza tekstu ukazuje typowe dla wschodnio żydowskiej literatury wspomnieniowej elementy i ukazuje wpływ, jaki na późniejszą publicystyczną twórczość autorki miało życie codzienne Żydów w tym wielonarodowym, galicyjskim miasteczku.

Erzählte Bilderbogen aus Ostgalizien by SALCIA LANDMANN is part of the autobiographic literature of the Eastern Jews who immigrated to the West. In this series of pictures the renowned expert in Jewish studies, who dedicated her work to the sunken language and culture of the Eastern Jewry, literarily constructs her birth city on the basis of transmitted memories and her own research. The analysis of this work reveals typical features of the Eastern Jewish memory literature and allows insights into the Jewish everyday life in the Galician multiethnic town, which proved to be formative for the author’s later writings.

Erzählte Bilderbogen aus Ostgalizien der SALCIA LANDMANN gehört zum autobiographischen Schrifttum der in den Westen gegangenen Ostjuden. In ihnen lässt die renommierte Judaistin, die ihr Wirken insbesondere der versunkenen Sprache und Kultur des Ostjudentums gewidmet hat, ihre Geburtsstadt Zolkiew als auf überlieferten Erinnerungen und Recherchen beruhendes literarisches Konstrukt entstehen. Die Analyse des Werkes bringt zum einen typische Merkmale der ostjüdischen Erinnerungsliteratur zum Vorschein und gewährt zum anderen Einblicke in den das spätere publizistische Anliegen der Autorin nachhaltig prägenden Einfluss des jüdischen Alltagslebens in einem galizischen Vielvölkerstädtchen.
