Different types of formal expression can be found in the modern architecture of the 21st century - in publications, internet resources and in the generalizations of critics. In the context of the synthesis of arts the styles of sculptural architecture and surface architecture are noteworthy. Characteristics of this synthesis are also noticeable in kinetic architecture where the styles of surface kinetic architecture and sculptural kinetic architecture are distinguished. The genesis of images of buildings constructed in these styles is the result of the synthesis of arts; it reflects the development of historical styles as well as the ways of formal expression and their influences in the end of the 20th century and in the 21st century. This paper provides an analysis of constructed objects and proposals put forth in architectural competitions in Latvia’s 21st century modern architecture.

Artykuł analizuje zależność pomiędzy rozwojem narzędzi projektowych, a wykorzystaniem ruchu w architekturze. W pierwszej części zaprezentowane zostały metody projektowe stosowane współcześnie w architekturze kinematycznej. Wyróżniamy tu projektowanie animacyjne, projektowanie generatywne, projektowanie parametryczne oraz inteligentne systemy adaptacyjne. W zależności od stosowanych metod projektowych uzyskujemy różnego rodzaju formy ruchu. Zróżnicowanie to wpływa również na ostateczne efekty funkcjonalnoprzestrzenne. W pracy przebadane zostały zależności pomiędzy narzędziami projektowymi, a powodem zastosowania ruchu. Autor analizuje dwa powody zastosowania ruchu: estetyczny oraz funkcjonalny. Przeprowadzone badania wykazują, że wraz z rozwojem stosowanych narzędzi projektowych, wzrasta poziom skomplikowania ruchu obiektów. Wraz z rozwojem technik projektowych ruch obiektów architektonicznych stał się zjawiskiem bardziej powszechnym. Jednak najistotniejsze jest, że wzrost jego złożoności sprawia, że uzyskujemy ciekawsze pod względem formalnym i funkcjonalnym formy. Architektura, którą kreujemy w ten sposób, staje się wieloznaczna, fascynuje współczesnego odbiorcę.

The article analyses the relationship between the development of design tools and the use of movement in architecture. In the first part design methods used today in kinetic architecture were presented. In kinetic design such methods are being used: animation design, generative design, parametric design and intelligent adaptive systems. Depending on the design methods we obtain different forms of movement, this diversity also affects the final functional and spatial effects. This paper has examined the relationship between design tools, the reason for implementation of movement. The author analyses the two main reasons for the use of movement, distinguishing between aesthetic and functional. The following study concerns the impact of design tools used in the kind of movement. Research shows that with the development of used design tools, increases the complexity of the movement. The development of the means of movement in architectural buildings has become increasingly common phenomenon. However, it is essential that the increase in its complexity makes it get more interesting in terms of formal and functional effect. Architecture that we create in this way, becomes more complex and therefore fascinating for contemporary customer.
