The aim of the paper is to evaluate the status of current implementation of the European Union Internal Market Programme, with particular emphasis on the implementation of the common market gaps at Community and national levels. Moreover, future trends of a single European market development – as a tool to ensure the maintenance of high, long-term and permanent competitive position of the EU, particularly unstable within the current crisis of the monetary union – were indicated. The first part of the paper is devoted to the analysis and evaluation of the Internal Market assumptions and rules and its implementation over the past decade – from the official implementation of the Program to the present years determinate by the effects of the economic crisis. In the next stage, a strategy for further development of the single market were proposed.

The environmental protection and maintaining the competitiveness of the EU on the world market can go hand in hand, and the environmental policy can play a key role in creating jobs and stimulating investment. Ecological growth requires the development of an integrated legal and institutional policy, supporting the principles of environmental sustainability. Eco-innovation can be realized and they can increase the Europe’s competitiveness and improve the quality of life of Europeans. Honesty is of paramount importance in this context.

Ochrona środowiska i utrzymanie konkurencyjności UE na rynku światowym mogą iść w parze, a polityka ochrony środowiska może odgrywać kluczową rolę w tworzeniu miejsc pracy i pobudzaniu inwestycji. Ekologiczny wzrost gospodarczy wymaga opracowania zintegrowanej polityki prawnej i instytucjonalnej, wspierającej zasady zrównoważonego rozwoju środowiska. Ekologiczne innowacje mogą być realizowane i eksportowane, zwiększając konkurencyjność Europy i poprawiając jakość życia Europejczyków. Uczciwość ma nadrzędne znaczenie w tym kontekście.
