Funkcjonowanie miasta to nieustanny dialog miejskiej przestrzeni i uczestników miejskiego życia. Rezultatem tej rozmowy są pozostawione w przestrzeni znaczenia, nawiązane relacje, stworzone miejsca. Tak rodzi się kultura przestrzeni, świadomość miejskiej polis. Głos w dialogu należy również do ludzi starych. Pytanie o miejsca osób starych w mieście, na ile jest ono dla nich przestrzenią nadziei, na ile tylko „kryjówką” wyznaczają treść niniejszego artykułu. Materiał źródłowy artykułu stanowi, obok literatury przedmiotu, kilka wywiadów swobodnych przeprowadzonych w Lublinie z samymi seniorami, jak również z animatorem Forum Kultury Przestrzeni oraz pomysłodawcą projektu wspólnego fotografowania miasta przez osoby starsze i młodzież.

The functioning of the city is a constant dialogue between urban space and the participants of urban life. The results of this conversation are manifested through meanings that appear in the space, relations that are established, and places that are made. That is how the culture of space is born, how people become aware of urban polis. Older people also participate in this dialogue. The purpose of this article is to focus on the position of the elders in the city; we will try to determine whether the urban space is a place of hope or merely a hiding place for them. Source materials for the article are, besides specialist literature, interviews conducted among the elders of Lublin and an interview with the organizer of Forum Kultury Przestrzeni and with the originator of the project of joint taking pictures of Lublin by elders and teenagers.

Celem rozważań jest zwrócenie uwagi na istotę podejmowanych decyzji oraz uzyskanie przesłanek do skonstruowania sposobu postępowania we wstępnych fazach projektowania, mających wpływ na tworzenie przestrzeni dostępnych i przyjaznych dla wszystkich użytkowników, w tym dla dzieci niepełnosprawnych. Zastosowano metody badań niezbędne do zdefiniowania problemu naukowego, jako wyjściowego dla dalszych opracowań, a w efekcie wskazania wytycznych wdrożeniowych. Z badań wstępnych wynika, że oczekiwania niepełnosprawnych małoletnich pozostają poza naukową refleksją. W artykule autorka wykazała, iż obowiązkiem projektanta jest tworzenie przestrzeni, która, uwzględniając potrzeby innych użytkowników, będzie dostępna i przyjazna dla dzieci, również niepełnosprawnych. Materiał będący wynikiem badań jest wyjściowy dla dalszych opracowań, zakłada się jego popularyzację nie tylko w obszarach naukowych, ale również wśród projektantów, inwestorów czy użytkowników środowiska zbudowanego.

An aim of considerations is to pay attention to the essence of decisions being made and to receive the premises to construct the way of conduct at early stages of designing affecting the creation of spaces accessible and friendly for all users, including handicapped children. The author applied the research methods indispensable to define the scientific problem as the starting point for further elaborations and, in effect, to indicate the implementation directives. The preliminary research shows that expectations of handicapped children are beyond the scientific reflexion. In her article, the author proved that the designer’s duty should be creation of the space which, taking into considerations needs of other users, will be accessible and friendly for children, the handicapped ones, too. The material being an outcome of the research is a starting point for further elaborations; the author assumes its popularisation not only in the scientific domains but also among designers, investors or users of the built environment.
