W artykule przedstawione są wyniki badań empirycznych zagranicznych zawodników zatrudnionych w najwyższej męskiej i kobiecej lidze tenisa stołowego oraz współpracujących z nimi polskich trenerów dotyczące dostrzeganych przez respondentów różnic kultur sportowych, w tym szczególnie relacji zawodników i trenerów oraz stylów kierowania procesem szkoleniowym przez trenerów w krajach pochodzenia zawodników i w Polsce oraz konsekwencji tych różnic dla szkolenia i wyników rywalizacji sportowej. Różnice kultur sportowych dotyczyły w szczególności zawodników i zawodniczek pochodzących z Chin i miały one swoje podłoże w różnicach społeczno-kulturowych pomiędzy krajem pochodzenia zawodników i Polską. Drugim wątkiem artykułu jest analiza ograniczeń, kosztów i korzyści wynikających z zatrudniania zagranicznych zawodników w polskich klubach na przykładzie tenisa stołowego. W badaniach zastosowano wywiady pogłębione z zawodnikami i trenerami, które pozwoliły na spojrzenie na wybrane problemy karier zawodowych sportowych migrantów w mało zbadanej pod tym względem dyscyplinie sportu.

The paper presents results of empirical study on elite international athletes and Polish coaches working in the Polish top table tennis clubs. It focuses on foreign players and investigated Polish the perceptions of coaches with regard to the differences between sports cultures in foreign players’ countries of origin and Poland, and their consequences for efficiency of sport training and competition results. Major research findings concerned Chinese athletes. Another issue analysed in the paper concerns on-going discussion on the limits, costs and benefits of introducing international players into national sport leagues. Based on the research results and literature review, we analyse the perceived impact of foreign players on the table tennis training system in Poland, relationships between Polish and foreign players and the role of international players in club competition. Applying qualitative research allowed the authors to present the insights and views of the investigated athletes and coaches, and to analyse problems occurring in the sport careers of international sport migrants a sport discipline that has hitherto not received much scrutiny.

Aim. The aim of the material is to present a report and review from the EASS Conference: “Sport, social unit and conflict” – XII European Association for Sociology of Sport Conference held on 10-13th June 2015 in Dublin, Ireland. Method. The methods used were participant observation and an analysis of the discourse. It is a type of case study of scientific events, of one of the periodically organized conferences in one of the international scientific societies. Results. A programme of the event was presented and its content was reviewed, with evaluation of at the organisational and scientific level. The level was good. Conclusions. Participants were of the opinion that the conference was a valuable form of well-understood scientific tourism. Decisions concerning the future activity of EASS were also made during the event.

Problem i cel. Celem opracowania jest przedstawienia komunikatu i recenzji z Konferencji EASS: “Sport, social unit and conflict” - XII European Association for Sociology of Sport Conference odbytej w dniach 10-13 VI 2015 w Dublinie, Irlandia. Metoda. Zastosowano metody jakościowe: obserwacji uczestniczącej oraz analizy dyskursu. Jest to także swego rodzaju studium przypadku imprezy naukowej, jaką jest jedna z cyklicznie organizowanych konferencji jednego z międzynarodowych towarzystw naukowych. Wyniki. Został przedstawiony program wskazanego wydarzenia i recenzja konferencyjnych treści, z oceną poziomu organizacyjnego i naukowego. Ten poziom był dobry. Wnioski. W opinii uczestników konferencja była wartościową postacią dobrze rozumianej turystyki naukowej. Dokonano też ustaleń dotyczących dalszych działań EASS.

Issues brought up in the literature of sport in the context of the upbringing carried out in families are particularly valuable and needed in the chaos of the contemporary world. Sought here are the answers to such questions as: in which aspect of the functioning of the contemporary family is it possible to address the issue of sport?; can sport become a specific ally in the upbringing and the effective intercommunication of individual family members?; in what way can sport be carried out in the family so that it becomes a part of the education process? Based on conducted examinations material was gathered in the form of data concerning issues of sport treated as one of tools used in bringing up the family. They used quality testing methods here: phenomenological, which most generally comes down to the honest description of the examined phenome non and with hermeneutic method, thanks to the application of which it is possible to get to obtain tangible results into the meaning of collected contents. Also a method of the diagnostic survey was applied. Research groups for the study were: coaches and instructors, athletes, PE teachers, students of PE and Sport, academic teachers of sports colleges. The persons are examined as to their methods and programmes. They are also parents, devoting themselves largely to the upbringing and the care of their children.

Poruszona w tekście problematyka sportu w kontekście wychowania realizowanego w rodzinach jest szczególnie cenna i potrzebna w dobie współczesnego chaosu w świecie wartości i zawirowań wokół podstawowej grupy społecznej, jaką jest wspólnota rodzinna. Poszukiwane tu odpowiedzi dotyczą takich pytań, jak: W jakim zatem aspekcie funkcjonowania współczesnej rodziny można poruszyć kwestię sportu?; Czy sport może stać się swoistym sprzymierzeńcem w wychowaniu i efektywnym porozumiewaniu się poszczególnych członków rodziny?; W jaki sposób realizować sport w rodzinie, by stawał się on częścią wychowawczego procesu? W oparciu o przeprowadzone badania zgromadzony zo stał materiał w postaci danych dotyczących problematyki sportu traktowanego jako jeden ze sposobów na wychowanie w rodzinie. Posłużono się tu jakościowymi metodami badań: fenomenologiczną, która, najogólniej rzecz ujmując, sprowadza się do rzetelnego opisu ba danego zjawiska oraz metodą hermeneutyczną, dzięki której zastosowaniu można poznawać w sposób rzetelny znaczenia gromadzonych treści. Zastosowano także metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. Grupy badawcze to: trenerzy i szkoleniowcy, sportowcy, nauczyciele WF, studenci kierunków WF i Sport, wykładowcy uczelni sportowych. Osoby badane zajmują się wychowaniem i dydaktyką w sposób programowy. Są oni także rodzicami, poświęcającymi się w większości wychowaniu i opiece swoich dzieci.
