The investigation of the influence of climate on humans is an integral part of political theory, for the study of laws must include all the factors that contribute to it. Montesquieu, who in his view of the human body follows the theses of iatromechanics, builds on medical teachings about “six non-natural things” in his theory of climate. The follow up to this theory shows that Montesquieu does not reduce thinking about the influence of external factors on the human body only to that of air and that the goal of physiological research is not a deterministic conception of politics, but to capture the multiplicity that human reason (and the legislator) must include in their decision-making.

Zkoumání vlivu podnebí na člověka je nedílnou součástí politické teorie, neboť studium zákonů musí zahrnovat všechny faktory, které se na nich podílejí. Montesquieu, který ve svém náhledu na lidské tělo následuje teze iatromechaniků, ve své teorii podnebí vychází z lékařského učení o „šesti ne-přirozených věcech“. Návaznost na tuto teorii ukazuje, že Montesquieu neredukuje uvažování o vlivu vnějších faktorů na lidské tělo pouze na vzduch a že cílem fyziologického zkoumání není deterministické pojetí politiky, ale zachycení mnohosti, kterou musí lidský rozum (a zákonodárce) do svého rozhodování zahrnout.

The considerable development of medical science during the last century, as well as growing public interest in health issues, are reflected in lexicography. In Czech monolingual dictionaries, the amount of headwords from medicine and related fields is steadily increasing. The Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech (ASSČ) brings a new approach to terminology (e.g. corpus-based selection of headwords, autonomization of headwords, unification of the explanation of meanings, exemplification of all one-word units). The ways of explaining the meanings of the names of diseases, types of medical treatment and the names of people suffering from a disease in the ASSČ are also presented.
