Taking into account the vision of the development of the Lodzkie region, especially smart specialisations and technological areas, which shall provide the basis for this development, there is no doubt that higher education in the fields of S&T is crucial for the development of the Lodzkie region. The expectations towards higher education in the fields of S&T do not always coincide with the needs of the labour market. The analysis presented in the paper, based on new methodological proposal to estimate the HRSTO category and its comparison with the evolution of the number of students in S&T fields of studies (in the article referred as HRST), shows that the response of higher education in the Lodzkie region is not always consistent with the projected changes in demand for human resources for science and technology to 2020.

Nie ma wątpliwości, że kształcenie w dziedzinach N+T ma istotne znaczenie dla rozwoju województwa łódzkiego, biorąc pod uwagę wizję rozwojową województwa, w szczególności inteligentne specjalizacje oraz obszary technologiczne mające stanowić bazę dla tego rozwoju, a które zostały zdefiniowane w dokumentach strategicznych. Presja i oczekiwania wobec kształcenia w tym zakresie nie zawsze są zbieżne z potrzebami rynku pracy. Jak wykazała przedstawiona w artykule analiza, oparta na autorskim podejściu do oszacowania kategorii HRSTO i porównaniu jej z kształtowaniem się liczby studentów kierunków N+T (określonych w artykule jako HRSTE), reakcja szkolnictwa wyższego w województwie łódzkim nie zawsze jest spójna z prognozowanymi zmianami w zapotrzebowaniu na zasoby ludzkie dla nauki i techniki w perspektywie 2020 r.
