The author considers the use of H. P. Grice’s theory of cooperation to describe the verbal behavior in the public communication, particularly in journalism. First, the author argues that the public communication cannot be reduced either to cooperation or to rationally planned action. Second, the author describes not only the rhetorical implications, but also the interpersonal implications of lower and higher order (instrumental and global). In the separate sections, the author describes implementation of postulates of some categories: quality, quantity, relevance and manner in the contemporary journalistic texts.

The article is considering condition of Ukrainian language in contemporary sociopolitical situation in Ukraine. This problem is presently one of the biggest importance, especially if we realize that Ukraine is so much culturally and nationalistically diversified country. For over 130 nationalities living in Ukraine only Polish people adopts Ukrainian language as its mother tongue. The rest prefers Russian. Russian language is also dominant in media and mass culture and with its visibility and popularity, especially at certain territories makes at present a big political issue. For that reason State’s authorities must act to promote usage of Ukrainian language and to prevent ideas of adopting Russian language as an second official language in the country as legal bilingual nature of the country would cause death of the Ukrainian language. Ukrainian language is then introduced as the only language allowed in the official, public sphere, as well as in education, and theoretically also in media. The later is not yet enforced in reality. The legal superiority of the Ukrainian language is not able to constrain people to speak the language they desire, so Russian is still strong as a daily language of the huge masses of Ukrainians, rooting them out of their identity and national culture.

The main feature of journalistic style of speech is the guideline of principle on the impact which is realized through verbal strategies of journalists. Researchers of language in their professional activities operate concepts and terms planning verbal behavior, speech strategies. The aim of using such actions is to correct picture of the world of recipient. The author discloses different ways and methods of person discrediting in the Russian press which was actively used for last 10–15 years. Described in the work features of language used in journalism are increasingly determined by social factors, which expanded their activities in the former Soviet Union.

Il presente articolo si propone di esaminare la concettualizzazione dell’attuale crisi economica nel linguaggio giornalistico. All’esame sono stati sottoposti 192 articoli pubblicati nei mesi di maggio, giugno e luglio dell’anno 2012 nella rubrica Economia del giornale Libero in versione on-line. Nell’analisi l’Autrice ricorre alla teoria cognitiva della metafora di Lakoff e Johnson, in particolare al concetto del dominio di partenza e quello di arrivo, ma anche alla distinzione tra la metafora concettuale e quella linguistica. In generale si è rivelato che la crisi viene concettualizzata in maniera prevalentemente negativa, attraverso i concetti della guerra, della malattia e delle calamità naturali; non mancano tuttavia i domini di partenza di natura più neutrale (p.es. cucina, calcio, contenitore). Tra le metafore linguistiche rinvenute, l’Autrice ha riscontrato le metafore strutturali, spaziali e ontologiche, ma anche i nomi propri metaforici e le metafore create ad hoc. Non sono infine mancati i casi degli incroci tra le metafore concettuali, come anche due meccanismi di rafforzamento metaforico. In generale la metafora si è dimostrata essere uno strumento di notevole importanza sul piano cognitivo.

This article aims to examine the conceptualization of the economic crisis in journalistic language. To analysis were submitted 192 articles published in the months of May, June and July of 2012 in the Economy section of the newspaper Libero in the online version. In the analysis, the author resorts to the cognitive theory of metaphor of Lakoff and Johnson, in particular to the concept of source and target domain, but also to the distinction between the conceptual and the linguistic metaphor. In general, it is revealed that the crisis is conceptualized predominantly negative, through the concepts of war, disease and natural disasters, there are, however, the more neutral source domains (eg, kitchen, football, container). Among the linguistic metaphors met the author has found metaphors structural, spatial and ontological, but also the metaphorical names and metaphors created ad hoc. Finally, there was presented the cases of the intersections between the conceptual metaphors, as well as two mechanisms of strengthening. Generally, the metaphor has proven to be a tool of considerable importance on the cognitive level.

Celem artykułu jest analiza konceptualizacji kryzysu gospodarczego we włoskiej prasie on-line w świetle kognitywnej teorii metafory Lakoffa i Johnsona. Na korpus badawczy składają się 192 artykuły opublikowane w maju, czerwcu i lipcu 2012 roku w rubryce Economia na stronie włoskiej gazety internetowej Libero. W przeprowadzonej analizie autorka opiera się na pojęciu domeny wyjściowej i docelowej oraz na rozróżnieniu pomiędzy metaforą konceptualną a metaforą językową. Z przeprowadzonych rozważań wynika, że kryzys gospodarczy jest pojmowany w przeważającej mierze w sposób negatywny, poprzez pojęcie wojny, chorób i klęsk żywiołowych, aczkolwiek nie brak również domen wyjściowych bardziej neutralnych związanych np. z kuchnią, piłką nożną czy z pojęciem pojemnika. Wśród przebadanych metafor, oprócz tych strukturalnych, orientacyjnych i ontologicznych, wyróżniono także nazwy własne metaforyczne, metafory stworzone ad hoc oraz przypadki krzyżowania się metafor pojęciowych, jak i przykłady wykorzystania mechanizmów wzmocnienia metaforycznego. Dodatkowo metafora okazała się istotnym narzędziem w wymiarze poznawczym na zasadzie unaoczniania znaczeń.
