The aim of the present study is to seek for differences between two Czech translations of The Education of Hymnan Kaplan (Czech Pan Kaplan má třídu rád) and The Return of Hyman Kaplan (Czech Pan Kaplan má třídu stále rád) two books by an American writer Leonard Q. Ross alias Leo Rosten. Within forty years two translations were published the authors of which, Pavel Eisner and Antonín Přidal, belong not only to outstanding translators, but are also connoisseurs of Czech. Using different translation techniques, both of them succeeded to convey the comic effect of the text to the presumed addressee. Even though the language of the original text, i.e. English is substantially different typologically from the highly inflectional Czech, and as a result English and Czech offer different means to raise language play between the author and his readers, both translators have managed to preserve the effect the original text has with respect to the readers.

The article analyses and sheds light on the nonsense techniques used in Lennart Hellsing’s Sjörövarbok (1965) (The Pirate Book). In this article, it is argued, furthermore, that Hellsing’s nonsense writings fit in with his role in Swedish children’s literature in the latter half of the 20th century as both a critic and a carrier of tradition. Theoretically and methodologically the study draws on the critical apparatus developed mainly by Wim Tigges. It is shown that Sjörövarbok is a prime example of nonsense literature, particularly in the use of repetition (names, verbs) and simultaneity of meaning.

From the standpoint of linguophilosophical views on the system and structure of the language the synthesis of its cognitive and communicative functions determines in its main features the integrative cognitive-discursive paradigm of modern linguistics. The latest achievements of linguistics have actualized the functional and communicative perspective, which involves concentrating the main research interest around speech problems, cognitive and communicative aspects of semantics. The research hypothesis is that linguistic activity and creative ability of an individual are expressed not only with regard to a "linguistic experiment", but also involve a mental experiment, understood as a heuristic strategy of the speaker, a conscious deviation from the norm in order to generate entities with the ludic (playful) charge.

Z punktu widzenia poglądów lingofilozoficznych na temat systemu i struktury języka synteza jego funkcji poznawczych i komunikacyjnych określa w swoich głównych cechach integracyjny poznawczo-dyskursywny paradygmat nowoczesnej lingwistyki. Najnowsze osiągnięcia językoznawcze unowocześniły perspektywę funkcjonalną i komunikacyjną, co obejmuje skoncentrowanie głównego zainteresowania badawczego wokół problemów mowy, poznawczych i komunikacyjnych aspektów semantyki. Postawiono hipotezę badawczą, że aktywność językowa i zdolności twórcze jednostki wyrażane są nie tylko w odniesieniu do "eksperymentu językowego", ale obejmują również eksperyment mentalny, rozumiany jako heurystyczna strategia mówiącego, świadome odchylenie od normy w celu generowania jednostek językowych z ludycznym (zabawowym) ładunkiem.
