Nowadays, crimes against archaeological heritage are not associated with social disapproval. Nobody is surprised to see people with metal detectors walking around and looking for the relics of the past. Despite the tightening of legal regulations “treasure hunt” is still very popular in Poland. People are trying to dodge the regulations, joining groups of seekers. They exchange experiences on social media, displaying the feeling of impunity. Where this phenomenon comes from? Can we fight against it?

Artykuł podejmuje próbę zdefiniowania i wyodrębnienia części bibliotek specjalnych we Francji w oparciu o dostępne na ten temat źródła informacji. Uwzględniając przyjęty na tej podstawie podział przedstawiono biblioteki, których historia, organizacja i działalność są reprezentatywne dla tego typu placówek. Zwrócono uwagę na personel biblioteczny, specyfikę usług oraz użytkowników.

Basing on the available sources of information, the article intends to define and distinguish special kinds of libraries in France, and describe their history, organisation and typical activities that they conduct. Additionally, the author focuses on characterizing the libraries’ staff, the services provided and the users.
