The article summarises the known information about the life of the politician and significant bibliophile Veit Ulrich Marschall von Ebnet (ca 1565 – ca 1625). Based on the provenance research into Lipník nad Bečvou and Mikulov castle libraries, the National Museum Libraryand other collections as well as auction catalogues, the paper lists the identified books from his library, describes Marschall’s armorial bindings and other provenance marks, on the basis of which it attempts to characterise the content of this extraordinary library.

The article draws on the list of separate manuscripts and manuscripts forming part of binders’ volumes coming from the library of the Domažlice Augustinians, a component of the first volume of the Soupis rukopisů Studijní a vědecké knihovny Plzeňského kraje v Plzni [A Compendium of the Manuscripts from the Education and Research Library of the Pilsener Region in Pilsen (Plzeň 2006)]. Since the first and at the same time last description of the library comes from as early as 1950, when the book collection was taken over by the State Education Library in Pilsen, we attempted to study the development of the Augustinian book collection on the basis of indirect sources, such as mainly books of accounts and ownership notes in extant printed books and manuscripts. From the original ca 4,000 volumes, only 272 volumes have been preserved in the Education and Research Library of the Pilsener Region (ERLPR) to this day; two separate manuscripts and 16 manuscripts forming part of binders’ volumes from the 17th–19th centuries have been described in the above-mentioned compendium; two manuscripts that were bound to other manuscripts come from a nearby convent in Pivoň. A noteworthy piece among the literary texts preserved in Prague archives is a manuscript fragment of a Czech play containing a dialogue between two merchants taking place at the Pilsen market, which comes from the second half of the 18th century, or the attempt of the Pivoň Augustinian Bruno Knez to write and even publish the history of his convent from 1753, which may be considered as the first printed monastic monograph from West Bohemia.

The library of the Order of St Augustine in the Lesser Town of Prague, comprising more than 18,000 volumes, is an extraordinary book set of significant scientific and historical value. Nevertheless, a scientific study that would cover the entire history of the library was not available until now. This article provides a brief outline of the history of the monastic library at St Thomas, mentioning some remarkable figures that have contributed to its prosperity. The introductory part brings information on the binding rules governing the librarian practice in the monastic libraries of the Order of Saint Augustine in the Middle Ages. Because of the long time span, this treatise has been divided into two parts – the medieval and modern history of the library. Particular attention is paid to two periods – the 14th and 18th centuries, during which some members of the Order held leading positions at the university in Prague and, through their pastoral, preaching and educational activities, they were actively involved in the social, cultural and spiritual edification of broad social classes.

Celem artykułu jest prześledzenie działalności Biblioteki Fundacji Wiktora hr. Baworowskiego na podstawie zapisów w „Księdze kasowej”, w której notowano bieżące wydatki biblioteki. Ten powstający głównie w XX wieku rękopis, stanowi interesujące źródło informacji o funkcjonowaniu biblioteki, gdyż wynotowano w nim szereg wydatków, które rzucają nowe światło na sposób funkcjonowania instytucji. Ponadto, analiza i zestawienie poszczególnych danych, dostarcza informacji o współpracy z najbliższym otoczeniem książnicy. Dane z opisanego rękopisu pozwalają zarysować sieć powiązań handlowych Baworovianum z księgarzami i antykwariuszami polskimi i z zachodu Europy. Tekst prezentuje także inne firmy (np. introligatornie) i instytucje (np. towarzystwa naukowe) oraz osoby, które na przestrzeni lat pojawiają się w „Księdze kasowej” jako współpracujący z biblioteką.

The article’s objective is to trace the activity of the Baworowscy Library, basing on entries in a “Cash Journal”, in which the Library’s expenses were being noted. This manuscript, created mostly in the 20 th century, constitutes an interesting source of information about the Library’s functioning, since a number of expenses which shed a new light on the Library’s work have been included there. Moreover, the analysis and juxtaposition of certain data brings information about the cooperation between the Library and its closest surrounding. Data from the manuscript described allows us to outline a network of trade links between the Baworovianum and booksellers and antiquaries from Poland and Western Europe. The text also describes other companies (e.g. binderies) and institutions (e.g. learned societies), as well as people, who throughout the years have appeared on the Journal’s pages as Library’s cooperators. Information included in this document are a trigger to the history of book culture in 19 th and 20 th century Lviv.

The public library of the city of Aarhus is distinguished by its architectural appearance, technical solutions applied in its operation, equipment, activity and forms of services as well as the attitude of the local environment to its design, construction and operation. It was first nominated for the competition of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for the best library in the world in 2016. The award was given on August 15, 2016 at the annual meeting of the international jury in Columbus, Ohio, USA. For many reasons it deserves to bring its activities closer to the Polish readers. The solutions used in it may be imitated under all conditions. In addition, it carries out a panel to exchange librarianship ideas and shares its experiences and knowledge.

Biblioteka publiczna miasta Aarhus wyróżnia się wyglądem architektonicznym, zastosowanymi rozwiązaniami technicznymi w jej funkcjonowaniu, wyposażeniem, działalnością i formami usług oraz stosunkiem środowiska lokalnego do jej projektowania, wznoszenia i funkcjonowania. Została najpierw nominowana do konkursu organizowanego przez Międzynarodową Federację Stowarzyszeń Bibliotekarskich (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions [dalej: IFLA]) na najlepszą bibliotekę świata w 2016 r. Nagrodę przyznano jej 15 sierpnia 2016 r. na dorocznym spotkaniu międzynarodowego jury w Columbus, w Ohio, w USA. Z wielu powodów zasługuje na przybliżenie jej działalności i osiągnięć czytelnikom polskim. Rozwiązania w niej zastosowane mogą być naśladowane w każdych warunkach. Nadto prowadzi ona panel wymiany koncepcji bibliotekarskich i dzieli się swoimi doświadczeniami oraz zdobytą wiedzą.

The paper discusses the historical circumstances of a book collection gift to the burnt library of the Åbo Academy, which then belonged to the Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire. Such a support was organised by the supreme government of Russian Empire and Emperor Nicholas I. Examination of official documents (The Book of Donations to the Vilnius University, 1820-1832; The Activity Daybook, 1823-1832) of the Vilnius University Library; Lists of donated books, preserved in the National Library of Finland and in the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, enabled specification of chronology of this charity act, discovering its effectors in Vilnius, and provided qualitative and quantitative parameters of donated books. It was identified, that the shipment of books delivered from Vilnius no earlier than 1829 February 28, consisted of 1481 volumes, mainly duplicate books on different topics, which were deposited to the Helsinki University. Alexander Wiktor Bohatkiewicz, a librarian and a bibliographer in the Vilnius University Library, played a crucial role in the selection of the books. At present, the best part of the donated books is preserved in the National Library of Finland. Specimens from private libraries of Georg Albinius, Nicolaus Decius, Fabian Birkowski, Leo Sapieha, Jan Kazimierz Wojsznarowicz, Georg Forster, Ludwig Heinrich Bojanus etc., and also from institutional libraries of Jesuit Colleges in Grodno, Słuck, Smoleńsk etc. were found within this collection. Completed bibliographical and provenance research of survived books makes a premise to a historical digital reconstruction of the donated collection. The results of provenance research may contribute greatly to the synthetic library history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Wartykule podjęto analizę dziejów i zawartości kolekcji książek Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego, które zostały darowane w 1829 r. ukazem carskim dla zniszczonej w pożarze w 1827 r. Biblioteki Abowskej (Turku), a obecnie są przechowywane w Bibliotece Narodowej Finlandii. W oparciu o źródła („Dziennik Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego”, 1823-1832; „Katalog ksiąg dubletowych” Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego, 1829 i inne) ujawniono, że książki w Wilnie wybierano ze zbiorów dubletowych od końca 1827 r., a wysłano do Helsinek nie wcześniej niż 28 II 1829 r. Łącznie do katalogu ksiąg na wspomożenie biblioteki w Helsinkach włączono 1481 tomów z różnych dziedzin wiedzy, w tym z teologii 406 woluminów, fizyki – 266, medycyny – 245. W czasie przeprowadzonych w 2015 r. w zbiorach Biblioteki Narodowej Finlandii badań de visu oraz przy wykorzystaniu źródeł archiwalnych udało się zidentyfikować ponad 400 jednostek druków i pojedynczych rękopisów mających proweniencję Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego. Wśród tych obiektów znajdują się egzemplarze z bibliotek prywatnych kanoników wileńskich G. Albiniusa, N. Deciusa, J.K. Wojsznarowicza, słynnego kaznodziei dominikanina F. Birkowskiego, magnatów Sapiehów, profesorów Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego G. Forstera, L.H. Bojanusa i innych. ,,Dar wileński” był zbierany z dubletów, a więc w jego skład weszły również książki z dawnych kolegiów jezuickich w Grodnie i Słucku. Wyniki badań proweniencyjnych rozproszonego dziedzictwa Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów mogą okazać się bardzo przydatne przy tworzeniu nowej syntezy historii książki i bibliotek Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego.
