The author of the paper explores the development of the concept of Polish post-war library science as an academic discipline and demonstrates the wealth of achievement in librarianship studies. Theoretical reflections and the on-going discussion about the scope of library science provide a background for a presentation of practical solutions applied in the work of libraries. The author presents library science concepts as well as authors of important publications contributing to the development of the discipline, practical librarian tasks and academic training of librarians. In addition, she analyses librarianship achievements with regard to characteristic, statutory tasks and functions of libraries as well as typology, showing their significance to librarianship practice in Poland and to the quality of academic training of librarians. There is also a brief description of the profile of the librarianship curriculum at the leading university-level institutions providing education to librarians.

Koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju cieszy się coraz większym zainteresowaniem. Znalazła także zastosowanie w bibliotekarstwie, a co za tym idzie począwszy od lat 90. XX w. zaczęła być przedmiotem światowej literatury fachowej i naukowej. W artykule zdefiniowano pojęcie biblioteki ekologicznej i biblioteki zrównoważonej. Dokonano charakterystyki – przy braku polskiej literatury – piśmiennictwa zagranicznego dotyczącego zrównoważonego rozwoju w bibliotekarstwie. Zaprezentowano konteksty w jakich pojawia się zagadnienie zrównoważonego rozwoju w odniesieniu do bibliotek.

The conception of sustainability is becoming more and more popular. It has been applied in librarianship field, and thereby from the beginning of the 90s of the twentieth century it began to be the subject matter of the world’s technical and research literature. In the article the terms green library and sustainable library were defined. Because of the lack of Polish literature on the subject, foreign literature relating to sustainability in librarianship was characterized. The frameworks of sustainability in relation to libraries in literature were presented.

This article examines the emergence and the dynamics of academic preprint and evaluates the possibilities for introducing preprint for the humanities.

Artykuł omawia powstawanie i dynamikę preprintu akademickiego oraz ocenia możliwości wprowadzenia preprintów w naukach humanistycznych.

Dnia 14 maja 2015 r. w Książnicy Pomorskiej im. Stanisława Staszica w Szczecinie odbyło się III sympozjum z cyklu Ludzie książki Pomorza Zachodniego zorganizowane przez Książnicę Pomorską oraz Okręg Zachodniopomorski Stowarzyszenia Bibliotekarzy Polskich. Celem sympozjum było zarówno przybliżenie słuchaczom postaci zasłużonych bibliotekarzy, redaktorów oraz innych osób związanych z książką na Pomorzu Zachodnim, jak i prezentacja działalności regionalnych wydawnictw. Artykuł relacjonuje przebieg sympozjum oraz przedstawia problematykę referatów.

On 14 May 2015 in the Stanisław Staszic Pomeranian Library took place the III Symposium on People of Books of West Pomerania. The symposium was organized by the Pomeranian Library and the West Pomeranian District of Polish Librarians’ Association. The aim of the symposium was to familiarize the participants with distinguished librarians, editors, and people associated with the book in West Pomerania, as well as to present regional publishing houses’ activities. Nine papers were presented. The article summarizes the symposium and presents issues raised in the papers.

This partly academic, partly memorial essay consists of three sections. The first of these presents some basic terms of Information Science, the second one concerns the author’s professional and research work in the Jagiellonian Library and in the Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, and the third one concerns the author’s academic research in the field of Information Science, both in the theoretical as well as in the practical meaning. The author underlines that Information Science is closely connected with Library Science and Librarianship.

Szkic naukowo-wspomnieniowy autorki składa się z trzech części: 1) przedstawienia podstawowych pojęć informacji naukowej i krótkiego rysu historycznego działalności informacyjnej; 2) przebiegu pracy zawodowej i naukowej autorki w Bibliotece Jagiellońskiej i Bibliotece Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie; 3) zaprezentowania pracy badawczej w zakresie informacji naukowej jako dziedziny wiedzy i działalności praktycznej. Autorka prezentuje pogląd, który upowszechnia w swych publikacjach, o ścisłych związkach informacji naukowej z bibliotekoznawstwem i bibliotekarstwem.
