This paper deals with some aspects of English for professional purposes. After a short historical overview of theories related to LSP (language for special purposes), we focus on some of the linguistic peculiarities of English for Specific Purposes. Our aim is to make a synthesis of the main theories and debates upon the issue of specialized languages, as the number of articles and writings on the topic is tremendous. We also wish to make a brief presentation of the most important contributions (still, we have to admit that the list of authors and articles is much longer, we had to make a selection, due to the editorial limitations of this article). We have gathered and synthesized what authors like Cabré, Celce-Murcia, Crystal, Croitoru, Motos, Strevens and others have said and we have also tried to make a comprehensive list of the names given to specialized language or language for specific purposes over time. Still, we have to state that it is not our goal to come up with examples or conclusions regarding our own personal ESP experience and/or previous research. The goal of this present study is to make a synthesis of the theories and writings on the topic of English for specific purposes (i.e. metaelemzés/metaanalysis in Klaudy's words or szekunder kutatás/secondary research in Fóris's words).

The Covid-19 outbreak and its dissemination resulted in the creation of a new, specialised and global discourse among the population. This paper aims to investigate a tsunami of dis- and misinformation on the basis of selected, most frequently occurring, items of fake news to show how the ‘infodemic’ (Covid-19-related misinformation) has expanded, and how fake news is structured. The paper concludes by presenting patterns of fake news, including grammar structures, the frequency of the given lemmas and collocations, in the hope that it will provide greater transparency, help to flatten the ‘infodemic’ curve and make the readers more aware of how myths about coronavirus have been formed during the pandemic.

The article presents flyers informing about a cultural event as a written form of communication between the organizer of the event and the potential audience. The aim of the flyer is just to inform about cultural events and encourage the potential audience to come to see it. It represents various branches of culture, such as theatre, music, film and art, reflecting the cultural life of a big city. The process of communication is realized with a number of linguistic means, which are the subject of presented analysis. Precise research shows that a cultural flyer apart from its pure informative function has a strong emotional impact as it contains a lot of linguistic means that create certain units with strong emotional function. The author chose examples out of 500 cultural events advertised in flyers from Munich to show lexical means typical for a cultural flyer and its possible future development. The research helped to discover an emotional function of the flyer. This has been achieved by the use of certain linguistic means. The detailed analysis of this form of communication can deepen our knowledge of other cultures and their senses.

Der Beitrag zielt darauf ab, die Formen der Entschuldigung in der deutschen Sprachkultur zu analysieren. Es werden Definitionen der Entschuldigung in deutscher Sprache geprüft. Wir untersuchen die sprachlichen Eigenschaften der Entschuldigung und geben ihr Diapason. Die am häufigsten verwendeten Beispiele für Entschuldigungen werden in der Studie angegeben. Die Nutzungsstatik von Entschuldigung und Verzeihung wird dort zur Verfügung gestellt; überdies wird die Verwendung der Entschuldigung in der deutschen Sprachkultur erklärt.

The article aims at learning the apology in the German linguoculture. The definitions of the apology in the German language are examined there. We study the linguistic properties of the apology and give their diapason. The commonly used examples of apologies are given in the article. The usage static of Entschuldigung and Verzeihung is provided there; the usage of the apology in the German linguoculture is explained in the article.

Introduction: The paper presents the organization of Introduction section in medical research papers in English in terms of its rhetorical structure and linguistic features. Material and Methods: This structure is analyzed in two groups of Introductions (corpora) written by (1) native speakers of English and (2) non-native speakers of English, that is, Polish authors, with the use of the reference model CARS (Create a Research Space) proposed by Swales (2004). The analysis of linguistic features included grammatical and lexical elements typical of Introduction. Results: The study shows that Introduction section in research papers written by Polish authors differs to varying degrees from the reference model, whereas in Anglo-American papers its structure corresponds to the current standards, required by publishers of prestigious scientifi c journals. Conclusion: The conventional features of Introduction used in Anglo-American academic culture and the requirements of the publishers of science journals oblige the authors to write well-structured and linguistically correct research papers. The presented model can be helpful in writing research papers in English.

Wprowadzenie: niniejsza praca przedstawia strukturę Wstępu w medycznych artykułach naukowych w języku angielskim pod kątem ich organizacji retorycznej i cech lingwistycznych. Materiał i metody: struktura tekstów poddana została analizie w dwóch grupach (korpusach) artykułów: napisanych przez (1) native speakerów języka angielskiego i (2) non-native speakerów, tj. autorów polskich, z zastosowaniem modelu odniesienia CARS (Create a Research Space) proponowanego przez Swalsa (2004). Analiza cech lingwistycznych objęła typowe dla Wstępu elementy gramatyczne i leksykalne. Wyniki: zastosowanie standardowego modelu odniesienia pokazało, iż Wstęp w artykułach napisanych przez polskich autorów odbiega w znacznym stopniu od wzoru podanego we wspomnianym modelu, natomiast w artykułach autorów angloamerykańskich ma on strukturę retoryczną, odpowiadającą obowiązującym standardom, wymaganą przez wydawców prestiżowych pism naukowych. Wnioski: dokonana analiza pozwala stwierdzić, iż skonwencjonalizowane cechy Wstępu obowiązujące w angloamerykańskiej kulturze akademickiej oraz wymogi wydawców czasopism naukowych zmuszają autorów do pisania dobrze przygotowanych pod względem retorycznym i poprawnych językowo artykułów. Przedstawiony model CARS może być bardzo przydatny w pisaniu artykułów naukowych w języku angielskim.
