The development of a region depends on a number of factors. One of them is a well-functioning logistics, which in this context can be named as the logistics of the region. Due to the fact that the literature deals with the problem of logistics of regions to a small extent on the one hand, and on the other hand at the same time one of the major investments treated as an essential element of logistic system in Pomeranian Region, i.e. Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway, has been just recently completed, a great opportunity to study an impact of the element on the regional development has appeared. The results of the study show that the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway has contributed to the liquidation of the unbalance between logistically highly developed Tricity (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia) and poorly developed area of Kashubian sub-region resulted mainly in better transportation access for inhabitants, as well as higher logistic service level for the Gdansk Airport.

The aim of the article is to present selected methods and tools for the improvement of the study programme in the field of ”Logistics”. The proposed methods and tools are: higher education institutions’ stakeholders opinion poll, benchmarking of study programme and study programme review. Furthermore, the paper presents Polish higher education institutions’ educational offer in the field of ”Logistics” in the context of employment trends. Finally, exemplary learning outcomes in the field of ”Logistics” in the context of National Qualifications Frameworks are described.

This article describes usage of radio frequency identification (RFID), technology which uses radio waves and which can be used to identify all kinds of objects in logistics. This identification method is coupled with automatic data capture and companies use it to get data into computer systems without intervention of employees. The aim of RFID technology is in increase efficiency, reduce data entry errors and in decrease count of necessary employees. RFID technology can also deliver benefits in different areas and not only in commerce, sale or logistics.

Strategic approach in logistics

The article features the problem of strategic approach in logistics. In the first part of the article the need of strategic insight into companies activities was stressed resulting most of all from more and more dynamic transformations taking place in their environment. Only using the strategic management tools may meet such challenges of managing a logistic system. The main pillars of strategic approach in logistics include the environment and strategy. Consequently, the logistic system environment and its structure was defined and methods of its analysis were presented. Scenario (qualitative) and non-scenario (quantitative) concepts of analysis were recognized as the basic ways of researching the logistic system environment. The macro environment concept was adapted directly from management sciences, whereas the micro environment structure was based on a modification of a model designed by M.E. Porter. The article also points out various possibilities to take advantage of H.I. Ansoff s and E.M. Porter's concepts relating to forming logistic strategies. Thus the importance of logistic strategies operating in higher than functional way was shown.

The article constitutes an attempt at presenting how the concept of logistics evolved with the passage of time as well as it depicts the links between logistics and support of military operations. Logistics and description of logistical actions were presented using cause-and effect events. Beginning with the etymology of the concept that formed within the military, to showing the role and place of logistics within the modern company, and to presenting how certain logistical solutions can be applied in extreme military circumstances.

The article presents the diversity of national security conditions and demonstrates the need for the study of its logistical aspects. There are presented American views on the role of logistics in ensuring national security. The paper presents and assesses the basic content of the documents relating to the national security of the Republic of Poland for content logistics issues. The end of the article contains conclusions and postulates.

Na końcu artykułu zawarto wnioski i postulaty.

It seems obvious that 10th century was a period in which the Byzantine polemology flourished once again, before it collapsed one hundred years later. During that period numerous authors of Byzantine military treaties instructed imperial commanders how to wage war. Among many issues organization of the campaign was always an important aspect. In this paper I will try to clarify selected problems. First, I will try to specify what the soldiers ate on a daily basis. Next, I will determine to what extent the provisioning system met the expectations and needs of the Byzantines fighting for the empire. With the help of Tactica and Sylloge Tacticorum, I will try to explain how the rations were gathered, transported and protected. Finally, I will specify how the supplies were utilized not only as a means of nourishment, but also as a tool of war. The following research was carried out on the basis of military treaties from the 10th century, since this time was the peak of Byzantine military revival. Although I mainly base my research on the work of Leon the Wise and the anonymous treaty known as Sylloge Tacticorum, I also occasionally refer to other works, such as Peri Strategias, De velitatione and Praecepta Militaria.

Przeprowadzona wstępna analiza danych z wykorzystaniem wielowymiarowych metod statystycznych pozwoli zobrazować obecną sytuację polskiego krwiodawstwa w układzie terytorialnym. Praca jest pierwszym etapem zmierzającym do określenia optymalnego zapotrzebowania krwi w Polsce.

One of the ways of reaching the desired market position by a company is to create customer value corresponding to his preferences. Among the value creation processes there is an important place assigned to logistics. It contributes to customer value creation by offering place and time utility for customers. Logistics may be supported in value creation by other cross-sectional management concepts, such as Customer Relationship Management, Business Process Reengineering, Lean Management, Total Quality Management, Time Based Management or Efficient Consumer Response.

This article proposes a unified theory of logistics for the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine based on the existing theories of armament and the logistics of the Armed Forces, and on the general laws and established consistent patterns, trends, principles, forms and methods of the use of the logistics of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The objective function of the logistics system of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is formulated to achieve compliance of the capabilities of this system with the predicted volume of logistics tasks. In order to implement this compliance, it is necessary to ensure the convergence of requirements and capabilities at all levels of logistics management. The assessment of the functioning of the Air Forces logistics system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is proposed on the basis of the stated views on the logistics theory of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by assessing the set of real capabilities of each subsystem that is a part of its structure and system as a whole. At the same time, the assessment of the quality of the logistic support of the military units (formations) of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be related to the level of implementation of the potential capabilities of the logistics system when solving problems of each subsystem at the various stages of combat training, unblocking and operational deployment, the preparation and conduct of operations (combat actions), restoration of combat capability of troops (forces).

The paper identifies the most important factors which lead to the presented concept of purchasing. The factors were suggested by the companies from the Lodz voivodeship during the research conducted by means of surveys.

The aim of the article is to present an innovative IT solution for monitoring transport in the process of fuel distribution, which was implemented in Lotos Paliwa in January 2013. Hardware and software requirements of the system, as well as the functional and task-oriented structure were described in the article. In contrast to other standard applications supporting the management of liquid fuel supply chain, it is a unique solution which considerably contributes to a significant reduction of the levels of losses and extraordinarily increases the safety and quality of delivered goods. It is a tool which may become an important source of competitive edge during stagnation in the market of fuels.

The article presents the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in production enterprises of Gorzów Wielkopolski area concerning the meaning of logistics within an enterprise. The survey points out that logistics actions are most evident and recognized with large and medium production enterprises. The survey also revealed the necessity to improve logistics processes.

In the last two decades, food safety has become one of the main concerns in the area of logistics and supply chain management and also in the refrigeration or freezing of goods. Safety is a critically sensitive area in this field, as if the required safety conditions are not satisfied during the logistics process, foods will soon deteriorate and probably become unsafe for consumption by customers. Thus, the problem of ensuring the safety of chilled food has received serious attention among logistics practitioners. However, because of the complex nature of such problems, research so far has been limited to quantitative models with deterministic parameters and the robustness of the results from such models should be examined. In this paper, a robust optimisation model has been developed with the aim of optimising food safety aspects and thus minimising the logistics cost of a chilled chain system under various types of uncertainty and constraints on customers’ time windows. Realizations of the model are solved by an algorithm based on artificial bee colony intelligence using MATLAB R2016a software. Finally, the results are analysed for possible real world considerations in order to propose some key practical highlights.

If one associates the scope of logistics with widely understood logistic competition, looking at logistics through the prism of enterprises competition factor and hence the factor which influences the market, one may also easily find the essential role of logistics in methodological approach concerning the shaping of the market and referring to the assumptions of new industrial economics – the approach that stresses the so called dynamics in market structures and is connected with market entries and exits (the mobility of market players) as well as with power and domination in the market, problems of appearing and disappearing of the businesses (businesses demography) other than competition between the forms of market coordination. This paper focuses on one of the most fundamental areas of new industrial economics, such as market entries and exits and barriers to them, which may be of logistic type. That is why the purpose of this article is to identify and characterise logistic barriers to market entries and exists. The paper is based on critical analysis, system analysis and hermeneutic methods.

In current market conditions, companies are forced to look for solutions to improve the functioning of their internal processes. The aims of the publication is to investigate the influence it exerts on implementation of standardized quality management system for the improvement of selected logistics processes in a large manufacturing company. The research tool was a questionnaire addressed to the management representative for integrated quality management system. In addition, the analysis of system documentation has been made and conducted direct interviews with employees of the company. Based on study it was found that correct implementation and improvement of the quality management system provides a significant support for logistics processes, affects the development of higher standards and strengthen relationships with suppliers.

In this publication there are the description of logistic product and its system's elements presented. There are also logistic subsystems and their elements separated which are presented in the table. On the basis of the conception of logistic product and logistic elements there is the definition of the logistic system created. Relating to the definitions presented there is shown, that the logistic system operates on three levels (in three structures): spatial, organisational and informational, and there is the sparial structure described.

This article is an attempt to answer the basic question: what is logistics management. The author in a very clear way shows that logistics management is a specific form of targeting the company from both inside and outside. The two functions distinguished are: strategic and operational. As it has been shown, logistics is one of the most important factors shaping the image of any company, and it is a programme that combines all activities of the company.

Supply networks have brought about challenges in strategy and the way it is formulated. In order to meet these challenges, changes in the traditional understanding of strategic management are required. Here strategic management applies not only to individual enterprises but the entire supply network. The aim of the article is to present the process of designing strategy for the supply network, which includes strategic analysis and the formulation of strategy among particular partners in the supply chain and the formulation of strategy for the supply network as a strategy that grows out of those of individual partners. Supply network strategy encompasses strategies for network development, relationships and competitiveness. The aim of supply network development strategy is to increase the effectiveness of the supply chain. Relationship strategies involve the way the supply network reacts to claims with regard to the network from organisations or interest groups.
