This article attempts to analyze the economic aspects of the development of aviation and aerospace industry in Jelenia Góra. Highlighting the historical facts related to Jelenia Gora as the cradle of Polish gliding, tends to identify unique – and probably the only one of its kind in the Poland and even in Europe – tradition of aviation sports in terms of tourism and industry, which as well as in the distant and near past, so now they have an impact on boosting economic growth the entire sub-region. One of the aspects of creating the socio-economic development of the sub-region, undoubtedly is its relationship with the environment in narrow and wide meaning of the matter. In the case of the area, this article will discuss the linkages of industrial plants occurring to a period of economic transformation in Poland, and a modern network connections occurring in the form of clusters.

W artykule podjęto próbę analizy aspektów gospodarczego rozwoju lotnictwa oraz przemysłu lotniczego w Kotlinie Jeleniogórskiej. Naświetlając fakty historyczne, związane z Jelenią Górą jako kolebką polskiego szybownictwa, starano się wskazać unikalne w skali kraju i Europy tradycje związane z lotnictwem sportowym w sensie turystyki i przemysłu, które jak w dalekiej i bliskiej przeszłości, tak i obecnie mają wpływ na pobudzenie rozwoju gospodarczego całego subregionu. Aspektem kreującym rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy danego subregionu są niewątpliwie jego powiązania z otoczeniem w wąskim i szerokim jego rozumieniu. W przypadku omawianego obszaru w artykule przedstawione zostaną powiązania sieciowe zakładów przemysłowych występujące do okresu transformacji gospodarczej w Polsce oraz nowoczesne powiązania sieciowe w formie klastrów.
