The main purpose of this study is to present and analyze: the essence, determinants and the impact of accounting fraud on the distortion of the main accounting functions, i.e. the information and analytical functions. The above aim of the presented text was achieved thanks to its structure, including the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part concerns a detailed discussion of: the essence, determinants, effects and methods of reducing accounting fraud. It has been supported by the empirical part of the work, which includes the presentation and analysis of examples of methods and ways of falsifying accounting records and financial reporting. On the basis of the cited examples, attempts were made to indicate the motives of the frauds and their impact on falsifying the real picture of the financial condition of the economic entity.

Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja i analiza: istoty, determinant oraz wpływu oszustw księgowych na wypaczenie głównych funkcji rachunkowości, tj. funkcji informacyjnej i analitycznej. Realizację powyższego celu prezentowanego tekstu umożliwiła jego struktura, obejmująca część teoretyczną oraz empiryczną. Teoretyczna część dotyczy szczegółowego omówienia: istoty, determinant, skutków i metod ograniczania oszustw księgowych. Została ona poparta empiryczną częścią pracy, która zawiera prezentację i analizę przykładów metod oraz sposobów fałszowania ewidencji księgowej i sprawozdawczości finansowej. Na podstawie przytoczonych przykładów starano się wskazać motywy dokonanych oszustw oraz ich wpływ na fałszowanie rzeczywistego obrazu kondycji finansowej jednostki gospodarczej.
