W artykule uwypuklono działania profesorów matematyków Wydziału Filozoficznego Uniwersytetu we Lwowie na rzecz kształcenia matematycznego w gimnazjach. Umiejętnie wykorzystali przychylność Krajowej Rady Szkolnej – instytucji powstałej po uzyskaniu autonomii w Galicji, która wprowadziła język polski jako język wykładowy. Działania te spowodowały duży wzrost kultury matematycznej we Lwowie na przełomie wieków. W konsekwencji miały wpływ na powstanie uznanych w świecie szkół matematycznych we Lwowie i Warszawie. Słowa

The article emphasizes the actions of mathematicians, professors of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Lvov University, for the benefit of mathematical education at gymnasia. They capably took advantage of the favorable attitude of the Home School Council, an institution created after Galicia gained autonomy, which introduced Polish as the language of instruction. Their actions caused significant growth of mathematical culture. In consequence, these actions influenced the emergence of world-famous mathematical schools in Lvov and Warsaw.
