Education for sustainable development ought, inter alia, to shape and strengthen the ability to make judgments and decisions in favor of safer, healthier and more prosperous world, and should develop critical thinking and develop ecological awareness. In this context the aspect of environmental awareness and the related choice of means of transport can be discussed. This article presents the results of research regarding the choice of means of communication by students. The study was carried out by a questionnaire among students in Krakow. The results of the research are presented in context of available communication possibilities in Krakow, which are also characterized. Studies have shown that the level of environmental awareness of students is still not satisfactory. Behind their declared concern for the environment do not follow the attitudes and behavior supporting this concern. The most important is their own comfort, even more important than their own health and condition. The care for the environment recedes into the background.

The need to optimize the trajectory of vehicles is still highly topical, regardless weather the means of transport are robots, forklifts or road vehicles. It is not only important the safety by passing obstacles, but also the energy balance, i.e. the energy expended on the movement of the vehicle and on the change of its direction. This paper presents a mathematical approach to solving this problem through interpolation and approximation curves. This is a very important scope of knowledge for the education of future engineers.

The article presents the model research on impacts exerted by means of transport on the structures. In modelling the dynamics of transport systems the dynamic properties of the ground forming the foundation soil for tracks or roadways have been taken into account. The ground has been modelled as an elastic half-space. The dynamics of an infinite mass band being in contact with an elastic half-space has been investigated. As part of the research on impacts exerted by means of transport on structures a model of a problem has been examined where an automotive vehicle, representing a concentrated force in motion, is in contact with a roadway described as a rigid body coupled with an elastic half-space. It has been demonstrated that a surface (Rayleigh) wave propagates in the ground, being a continuous (elastic) medium, and acts on a structure modelled as a rigid body. The research results have been presented in the form of vertical and horizontal transmittances of the ground for different frequencies of loading with different unit forces.

Głównym celem tego artykułu jest ukazanie związków między słownictwem, które wzbogaciło polszczyznę XIX w. w zakresie nazw środków transportu, a rzeczywistością pozajęzykową. Za główne kryterium klasyfikacji przedstawionego materiału został uznany podział wynikający ze specyfiki realiów tego okresu. W kolejnych partiach artykułu zostały omówione nazwy środków transportu lądowego (napędzane siłą mięśni, konne, napędzane silnikiem), kolejowego, powietrznego i wodnego. W ramach poszczególnych zagadnień przedstawione zostało analizowane słownictwo oraz sytuacje, kiedy mogło się ono pojawić.

The main aim of this paper is to present relation between vocabulary and the extralinguistic reality of 19th century. 19th century names of means of transport was a base of the research. The real structure of the transport is a major criterion of classification. Different kinds of means of transport are presented in subsequent parts of the paper. At the beginning the names of land transport are shown: vehicles driven by muscle, horse-drawn vehicles and motor vehicles. Afterwards vehicles of rail, air and water transport are considered. New words and cultural determinants of the period are shown in the context of the issues discussed.

Bezpieczeństwo jako jedna z potrzeb każdego człowieka jest niezwykle ważne i niezbędne w codziennym funkcjonowaniu. Każdy z nas stara się osobiście zapewnić bezpieczeństwo sobie, swoim bliskim i osobom wokół nas. Jednak nasze możliwości zapewnienia sobie bezpieczeństwa są ograniczone. Dlatego pewne działania w tym zakresie podejmują różne organizacje, instytucje rządowe i pozarządowe, a przede wszystkim służby państwowe. Dbanie o bezpieczeństwo w środkach komunikacji miejskiej to jeden z obszarów zaliczanych do szeroko rozumianego bezpieczeństwa, który przyczynia się do naszego stabilnego funkcjonowania oraz możliwości życia w korzystnych i przyjaznych warunkach, także w podróży, która jest nieodzownym elementem życia.

Security as one of the needs of every human being is extremely important and necessary in everyday functioning. Each of us tries to personally ensure the safety of ourselves, our relatives and those around us. However, our ability to provide ourselves with security is limited. Therefore, certain activities in this field are undertaken by various governmental and non-governmental organizations, institutions and, above all, state services. Taking care of safety in the means of public transport is one of the areas included in the generally understood safety, which contributes to our stable functioning and the possibility of living in favorable and friendly conditions, also during travel, which is an indispensable element of life.

На протяжении многих лет ставились амбициозные цели по сокращению количества дорожно-транспортных происшествий и их смертельных случаев. Годовая статистика подтверждает их постепенное снижение, но не в предполагаемых объемах. Целью исследования, направленного на решение практической задачи, выводы которого вошли в статью, было продемонстрировать влияние транспортных средств на смертность участников дорожного движения в Европейском Союзе. Основная исследовательская проблема, которую предстоит решить с помощью количественного и качественного анализа дорожно-транспортных происшествий в ЕС за 2010-2019 гг., заключалась в следующем: какое влияние оказывают транспортные средства на смертность участников дорожного движения в Европейском союзе? Были расследованы дорожно-транспортные происшествия, произошедшие в 2010-2020 годах во всех государствах-членах. Тем не менее, для детального исследования были использованы статистические сводки о дорожно-транспортных происшествиях за 2010-2019 годы. Причиной того, что в анализе не были учтены данные за 2020 год, была их недостаточная достоверность. По оценкам Европейской комиссии, более низкие объемы движения, связанные с пандемией COVID-19, могли способствовать меньшему количеству дорожно-транспортных происшествий и смертей. Для исследования были отобраны семь основных категорий транспортных средств, попавших в дорожно-транспортные происшествия со смертельным исходом. К ним относятся велосипеды, мопеды, мотоциклы, легковые автомобили, автофургоны, грузовики (<3,5 т), автобусы и междугородние автобусы. В связи со значительной долей пешеходов, пострадавших в ДТП от общего числа погибших, данная категория также была исследована. Проведенное исследование подтвердило, что количество ДТП с участием анализируемых транспортных средств прямо пропорционально влияло на количество погибших, сохраняя процентное соотношение на практически неизменном уровне. Результаты показывают, что цели по сокращению числа погибших на дорогах, поставленные Европейской комиссией, неверны, в частности, перспектива довести до нуля число погибших на дорогах к 2050 году.

Road safety is one of the priorities of the European Commission, which is referred to in strategic documents of the European Union. For many years, ambitious goals have been set to reduce the number of road accidents and their deaths. Annual statistics confirm their gradual decline, but not in the amounts assumed. The aim of the research aimed at solving a practical problem, the conclusions of which were included in the article, was to demonstrate the impact of means of transport on the mortality of road users in the European Union. The main research problem to be solved by the quantitative and qualitative analysis of road accidents in the EU for 2010-2019 was included in the question: What impact do means of transport have on the mortality of road users in the European Union? Road accidents that occurred in 2010-2020 in all Member States were investigated. Nevertheless, statistical data on road accidents for 2010-2019 were used for detailed research. The resignation from the presentation of data for 2020 was caused by the lack of their reliability. The European Commission estimated that lower traffic volumes related to the COVID-19 pandemic could have contributed to fewer road accidents and fatalities. Seven main categories of vehicles that were involved in fatal road accidents were selected for the study. They include bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, passenger cars, delivery vans, trucks (<3.5t), buses and coaches. Due to the significant share of pedestrians as victims of road accidents in the total number of fatalities, this category was also examined. The conducted research confirmed that the number of road accidents with the participation of the analyzed means of transport had a direct proportional influence on the number of fatalities, while maintaining the percentage ratio at an almost unchanged level. This statement shows that the goals of reducing the number of road fatalities set by the European Commission are incorrect, especially the vision of zero road fatalities by 2050.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie roli, jaką samochód odgrywa w życiu Polaków. W tekście opisano poprzednie badania o charakterze ilościowym, które prowadzono w Polsce pod kątem sprawdzenia, czy samochód może zostać zastąpiony innymi formami transportu. Autor argumentuje, że analizy te są niewystarczające i opisuje wyniki badań jakościowych, które ukazują dodatkowe znaczenia przypisywane motoryzacji. W tym świetle, samochód jawi się jako integralny element nowoczesności i ponowoczesności, a jego rola zdaje się być wieloaspektowa i stabilna.

The aim of this paper is to show the role of the car in Polish peoples’ lives. The text describes previous quantitative methods of analysis which are used by Polish scientists to determine if the car could be replaced by other means of transport. The author argues that the analyses are insufficient. Therefore, the article includes alternative, qualitative research showing additional significations of the car. In this light, the car is seen as an integral element of modern and postmodern life. Its role is also seen as stable and multifaceted.
