Color in residential interiors shapes one’s immediate environment. Not only is the selection of respective hues influenced by personal tastes or current fashions but it is also affected by the economic development and political situation in a given country. The article discusses historically viewed reasons for the evolution of tastes with respect to color schemes in household interiors. The late 19th century was dominated by subdued hues: cold greens, violets, pinks, and whites. The caesura of WW I entirely changed people’s attitude to colors. They chose to surround themselves with= vivid bright colors: there appeared shades of red, orange, and yellow, as well as vivid navy and sky blues. One example of the changes in the modern palette in residential interiors discussed in the  paper are the designs by Andrzej Pronaszko and Włodzimierz Padlewski used in President Mościcki’s Castle in Wisła.

Kolor we wnętrzach mieszkalnych kształtuje najbliższe otoczenie człowieka. Wpływ na użycie poszczególnych barw mają nie tylko gust czy panująca moda, ale także rozwój gospodarczy i sytuacja polityczna danego kraju. Artykuł ujmuje historycznie przyczyny ewolucji gustów w zakresie kolorystyki wnętrz. Koniec wieku XIX charakteryzował się użyciem barw przygaszonych, zimnych zieleni, fioletów, różów, bieli. Cezura jaką stanowiła I wojna światowa zmieniła całkowicie nastawienie ludzi do kolorów. Zaczęto otaczać się barwami zdecydowanymi, jaskrawymi, pojawiły się czerwienie, pomarańcze, żółtości, zdecydowane granaty i błękity. Jednym z przykładów omawianych w artykule przemian, nowoczesnej kolorystyki we wnętrzach są projekty Andrzeja Pronaszki I Włodzimierza Padlewskiego dla Zameczku Prezydenta Mościckiego w Wiśle.
