The article is an attempt of synthetic look on what the German studies on communication in the field of the mediatization of politics have accomplished. It consists of four parts. The first one touches upon terminological issues, since appearance of the two terms “mediatization” (Mediatisierung) and “medialization” (Medialisierung) is connected to different ways of understanding the relations between the sphere of politics and mass media. The second part analyzes positive and negative effects of the mediatization of politics in Germany. The third one justifies the meaning of the empirical research on this issue and presents the results of public opinion poll research concerning the relationship between the political and media elites. The last part examines the presence and the future of democracy in the context of the mediatization of politics.

The medialisation of the war in Ukraine is a consequence of the alignment of its parties and commentators with the logic of the mass media and concerns all phases of political communication, i.e. the articulation of interests and coalition building, the making of decisions and the interpretation of their results, as well as their social resonance. The medialisation of images of war from each of its parties requires them to take care of their image and actively participate in the construction of war reality and takes place, among other things, at the content level, where a dichotomous way of thinking is emphasised, which is a direct result of the division into aggressors and defenders, allies and enemies. Therefore, the aim of the proposed presentation will be to analyse the media coverage of the war traumatic experience described in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s media appearances in the international arena, in national parliaments.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the reportage 1945. War and Peace by Magdalena Grzebałkowska in the context of contemporary memory studies. I am particulary interested in the way the modern literary reportage reflects the past and deals with the subjectivism of memory and post-memory. In my research I focus on medialisaton of the collective and the personal memory. My intention is to discuss the immense influence of media on the contemporary discourse on the past. According to Grzebałkowska, the language used in the literary reportage is strongly rooten in the experiences of the witnesses of the war. I would like to present how the cultural memory shapes the identity of individuals and society. My analyses shows that the book of Grzebałkowska can be read not only as a story about complicated situation of Poles in 1945, but also as a text which documents and collects their memories.

As regards the functioning of the political science in Poland there is a strong tension growing between requirements of the scientific nature, the practical attitude and programming and convenience of media in the process of popularization of achievements and analytical competence of political scientists. The field’s experts cannot cope with this properly. The political science is able to keep its scientific nature provided that its cognitive purposes remain autotelic, although it does not rule out practical usage of the knowledge gained through the scientific process. In practice however narrowly utilitarian, vulgar-pragmatic ideas of benefits from the political science are dominating. The effect of this is the reduction in cognitive ambitions of political scientists as a result of imposing them by politicians and clerks, temporary horizons and banal level of research, repeating ideological-propaganda pseudoaxioms, the disappearance of critical reflection over the deeper content of the political game. Presentation of achievements and competence of political scientists in the media brings barren attempts at commenting current political affairs. Paradoxically, using the potential of the political science both through the class of the ruling, as well as by any other forces of the political Establishment is inversely proportional to social needs and to the available offer of political scientists.
