The origins of the reformation in England are inseparably join to king Henry VIII. This character works in common human imagination is a bloody tyrant, who strives to satisfy his desires and ambitions. In a certain sense, his character traits affected his decisions. It is important to write, that the history of England abounds many examples of kings, who wants to got domination on church. In this article author by the analysis of medieval English law and other historical conditions, presents his thesis as an introduction to passing The Act of Supremacy in 1534.

On December 29, 2020, 850 years have passed since the martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket. However, the story of this character in Polish hagiographic and historiographic literature, is very often compared to Stanisław of Szczepanów, the forms of worship and the extent of the cult of the English martyr were much wider than the worship given to the Bishop of Kraków. The task of the author of the article is to present some aspects of the cult of Thomas Becket in the lands of medieval England, expressed in literature, jewelry, art and architecture. For this purpose, the author used the latest findings available on this subject, representing fields such as history, archeology and art history.
