The article presents the account of the interrelation of philosophy and science in positivism. Scientism was the reason for which philosophy’s claim to be reliable knowledge was rejected, and its role of philosophy reduced to that of 'ancilla scientiae'. Positivism strengthened the thesis that the empirical method is a privileged one, and that no other way of carrying out research meets scientific criteria.

Artykuł przedstawia charakter wzajemnych relacji filozofii i nauk przyrodniczych w myśli pozytywistycznej. Pozytywizm jako epoka o silnych tendencjach demarkacjonistycznych wysunął postulat parcelacji filozofii i przekazania całej wiedzy o świecie w ręce nauk szczegółowych. Scjentystyczna postawa spowodowała wysunięcie twierdzenia o uprzywilejowanym miejscu nauk empirycznych w panteonie wiedzy oraz o ich kluczowym znaczeniu dla postępu ludzkości. Jednocześnie rola filozofii została zredukowana do 'ancilla scientae'. Pozytywizm umocnił tezę, że metoda empiryczna i podkreśla uprzywilejowaną rolę poznania właściwego dla nauk empirycznych.
