In the article the figure of Rev. Aleksander Wóycicki (1878-1954) as well as his researchscientific and organization-social achievements have been presented. He studied social sciences in the most renowned West-European universities, where he gained sound education. It may be said that he was a professional sociologist, the first one among Polish priests. This is why in 1905 he was offered the first sociology chair in the history of Polish education – in the Imperial-Catholic Church Academy. Rev. Wóycicki initiated Polish sociological research into the workers’ class and family, in the development of industry and its social problems. He was an especially active member of parliament, concentrated on social problems of the poor layers of society. He also assumed some important positions in academic institutions, especially ones having a sociological profile. Wóycicki was interested in social-economic problems of the working class, in organization of higher education institutions and other issues concerning working people. His publications considerably enrich the achievements of Polish sociology of labor and industry as well as of the family and social policies. This is why he deserves more attention from researchers, and his achievements should be more precisely analyzed and adequately assessed by historians of social and economic thought, including researchers in the history of Polish political science.
