Mikołaj Jerzy Woźniak’s aim in this article is to characterize the contemporary historical novel. Woźniak examines critically Paweł Ćwikła’s assumptions regarding the essential features of fictional historical literature. As a case study, Woźniak analyzes the work of Ewa Kassala, an internationally acclaimed author of Polish descent. Using Nathalie Heinich’s narrative method in his research, Woźniak identifies the main themes in Kassala’s work, which allows him to confirm the outset assumptions. Kassala puts emphasis on timeless fictional events, while paying ample attention to historical realism. An additional element, following the example of Henryk Sienkiewicz, is the idea that historical fiction should “fortify the hearts of the readers” and raise their morale.

Celem pracy jest próba scharakteryzowania współczesnej powieści historycznej. Przetestowane zostają założenia Pawła Ćwikły dotyczące esencjonalnych cech fabularnej literatury historycznej. W ramach studium przypadku analizie poddaję twórczość Ewy Kassali, międzynarodowej pisarki polskiego pochodzenia. By zdobyć informacje, korzystam z metody narracyjnej Nathalie Heinich. Główne motywy w twórczości Kassali zidentyfikowane w ten sposób zbiegają się z przyjętymi założeniami: nacisk kładziony jest na ponadczasowe zdarzenia fabularne, przy dbałości o realizm historyczny. Elementem dodatkowym jest, na wzór Henryka Sienkiewicza, pisanie „ku pokrzepieniu serc” i podnoszenie morale czytelnika.

Przedmiotem opracowania jest charakterystyka wybranych metod jakościowych i możliwości ich wykorzystania w badaniach przedsiębiorczości. Przedsiębiorczość to wieloaspektowy, interdyscyplinarny proces kreowania nowych wartości, tworzenia bogactwa. Duże znaczenie w jej rozwoju odgrywają zasoby niematerialne, aspekty „miękkie”, dlatego do jej badania bardzo często wykorzystuje się metody jakościowe, pozwalające lepiej poznać i zrozumieć różnorodność i złożoność tego procesu.

The subject of the paper is to characterise the selected qualitative methods and the possibilities of using them in the research on entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary process of creating new values and richness. A great significance in its development lies in intangible resources, qualitative aspects, therefore, while researching it, qualitative methods are very frequently used as they enable one to better get to know and understand the complexity of this process.

The story about Jephthah is placed in the middle of the Book of Judges (Judges 10:6-12:7). Therefore we recognise in this figure an important link in the quest for the model of a ruler in the period of pre-monarchic Israel. In order to reconstruct the image of Jephthah as a leader the method of narration has been applied. The narrative programme has confirmed that Jephthah, while seeking to find a solution for the crisis of power, became the paradigm of a ruler. In the light of narrative techniques used by the narrator, Jephthah fails as a paradigm, for he loses his daughter and he is seen by the generation of Ephraim as an unfulfilled ruler. There are three reasons at the source of his unfulfilled power: treating power as a means to satisfy one’s ambition; rejecting power as a service on behalf of the good of his subjects; eventually, no roots in the tradition, history, and religion of the fellowship in which is he to govern.
