The second half of the nineteenth century was a period of rapid demographic growth in cities and intense urbanization. There were phenomena in cities that were not there before. What changes in the years 1910–1918 took place in the urban layout and architecture of Bydgoszcz? What where the new role models adopted, and what was the greatest emphasis? Despite the good economic situation, orders for the German army, and convenient communication, Bydgoszcz suffered from construction stagnation caused by the uncertain situation before and during World War I. The most new trends in Bydgoszcz architecture can be seen in the housing development. This was a consequence of reforms at the beginning of the 20th century. Looking at the architecture from 1910‒1914, it can be seen that trends in simplifying styles reached Bydgoszcz early on and efforts were made to adapt them to the requirements of the present day.
